It's only like a 5 1/2 hour drive... You can't do that in a day?

QCH2002
29 Mar 2008, 12:13am
Depends when we leave... Lately, we've left after 8:00 PM Central time. We had to come home from work, pack, meet up, repack, and hit the road. This year, I'll already be home so I should be able to pack and be on the road whenever TT is ready to go. If that is early enough, we'll shoot straight through.

Okay, well, I was thinking that I would take Thursday off work, and get a proctor to cover my classes, so that I could actually be there for the whole event, but I just realized that the 19th is final exams for that term, which I sort-of need to be around for. That means that Sharky and I will likely be leaving Cincy early in Friday morning, arriving in Warren in time for lunch. If the extra day had been added to the end of the event instead of the beginning, I could have done it, as that will be the beginning of summer break for me. :/

I will be driving from Tallahassee, so anybody in the North Florida area need a lift?

I will be leaving on the 18th to drive up and someone to split the cost of gas with (won't be bad, I have a Civic) would be much appreciated.

Just a heads up, I smoke cigs, so yeah, you gotta be cool with that.

If I was driving up there I wouldn't mind carpooling, but alas, I was lucky enough to get airfare from Orlando to Detroit for just over $100 RT... Maybe next year!! There are enough IC guys in Florida that we could possibly organize something...

pigflipper
2 Apr 2008, 08:00pm
Yeah, I wish I could fly from Tallahassee, but the cost of Tally -> Atlanta is ~ $300 (cheapest flight is to Panama City, FL, @ ~$150) then you add on Atlanta to Detroit into the cost which = piggeh doesn't fly out of Tallahassee.

Since I am in Tallahassee, other people in Florida can drive here to meet up (or meet in Lake City) and leave their car at my parents house if needed.

RyderOCZ
2 Apr 2008, 08:02pm

I just looked at Travelocity - Tallahassee to Detroit is only $287 and that goes through Atlanta. The $287 is the total price, not just to Atlanta :)

yup, maybe 12.5 from kansas city. remember chicago has tolls. going to indianapolis on i-70 then up i-69 to i-94 only adds about 15 minutes, but it is free ;) JUST WATCH YOUR SPEED IN INDIANA! cops use laser guns(no radar warning) and they seem to be at every exit ramp or bridge.

if you want me to post the route I usually take lemme know

If you would fatcat that would be helpful. We are coming from Scout Camp in Osceola Missouri, which turns out to be closer than from my house.

fatcat
4 May 2008, 05:06pm
Osceola to Warren (http://www.mapquest.com/mq/2-WEWO8b3vDH6vuIizA30a)

ignore the getting off I-69 in Fishers, IN. Just stay on I-69. I use Fishers as a reference point since mapquest always has you go up near Chicago. This route takes 13 minutes longer than going up by Chicago, but is free.

edit> haha too early in the day. Brian's house is 24940 Beierman, NOT 24920. But you'll see all our cars and the girls on trampolines as soon as you turn on Beierman ave anyways so

Looks like I will be leaving late on the 17th or very early on the 18th now. Just checked my class schedule and my exam is @ 6pm on 6/17. So anybody from Florida or South Georgia that needs a ride, thats the new plan. I am basically setting it so that I arrive in the early evening of the 18th so that on the 19th I can drive some more, but this time to pay my last respects to Keith. I don't care how far the drive is, I've got a bottle of Admiral Nelson I need to share with him.

That doesn't matter to me, I've never been able to make it up there and I was only able to attend the memorial services in Gainesville and one a few months later here in Tallahassee at the high school we attended. I really wanted to go to the funeral, but I was in a really bad place after all that went down and in no shape to make the journey. I will be offering spots in the car to anybody else who wants to join me.

Right now I am trying to find out exactly where he is buried. I am trying to get ahold of Celcho (lost his phone number when my phone was stolen) to see if he has that info or how to get in contact with Keith's mom.

I talked to Canti last night and he raised some concerns with his car. We thought about maybe taking a train from St. Louis, but Amtrak is notoriously unpredictable in my book. I also wouldn't feel comfortable bringing my computer on there seeing how they load and unload stuff on those trains. Anyone have thoughts on the subject?

I am against it, I think Canti's car will be fine but if this particular stretch of the rails has glowing reviews it might be a good way to go.
