I saw this (http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/radeon_voltmod/index.shtml) over at techspot. Looks beyound what I am interested in doing with my new card but some of you may find it a good reference.
It also made me realize that the "band" around the gpu/vpu is removable with a little care ...better gpu/vpu can be achieved. That part I might try later.

Careful removing the GPU shim. I've heard many a horror stories of people removing the shim with a razorblade/flatedge, only to slip and take a gouge out of their GPU... :(

Yes they indicate that in the article ...it may be awhile before I attempt it if at all.

the article mentions that the shim is slightly elevated beyond the height of the gpu ...how are you supposed to get adequate contact that way ...buttloads of AS5?

i believe the stock cooler comes with a thermal pad? and when you take it off, you cant really reuse the shim, because of that reason.

i'm not sure if everyone 9800pro use thermal pad, because i took off my GPU fan on my 9800pro, it was paste, and it was fairly easy to remove the hsf, and applied AS3.

well, im pretty sure all the BBA are pads? unless they use a HEAP of paste to fill the gap.
