Every once in awhile something rare happens....
solar eclipse
blind squirrel finds a nut
sun shines on a dog's arse
primesuspect leaves warren...
There is a long span of time between ICLAN08 in June and Oktoberfest in October with no IC Event... then as most IC epicness happens via IRC, Snarkasm says, "Hey LUDO is playing in Chicago, wanna meet halfway?"
So, as Icrontic Party Planner, IT IS DONE.
ICRONTIC IS GONNA SMASH THE_TECHNOCRAT'S HOUSE AND CHICAGO!
update: the warped tour was too expensive just to see Ludo play for 30 minutes. But as always, a good event coordinator has a plan B!)
Icrontic Goes on a Road Trip:
WHEN: August 1st 6pm - August 3rd
So all you kiddies know the deal. POST HERE IF YOU THINK YOU WILL ATTEND.
We will have many more details coming in also.

I will not be attending.. Wedding on the 2nd and then guests from Chitown on the 4th :(
I'm thinking of attending, but I have questions:
What does a tour of Chicago consist of? Hanging out at tt's house and drinking beers? Visiting all of the neat and cultural places in Chicago? Something inbetween? Will it be expensive? Will it require that I have a car?
Also: What hotels or other sleeping accommodations exist near tt's house?

Well... the Pool Party is from 3:00 until.... 9:00 or 10. It's a BYOBoose party but there will be kids there. We have a 15'x30' pool, big ass grill, 2 sets of corn-hole boards (bean bags for the noob), sandbox for Thrax, open area for frisbee or trackball. There will be music, food, some cake... I'll be cleaning and setting up all Saturday morning but anytime after 1:00 would probably be fine.

I will be driving up on Friday evening. Departing Cincinnati after work, probably around 6PM EST. CB and Betsy will be with me.
I am bringing my single air mattress and a sleeping bag. As long as there's room to throw down, I'll be fine.

22 Jul 2008, 2:18am
Request some kind of sleeping spot, but I'll have a sleeping bag with me all the same.
I'll be leaving after work and I drop the dog off; given 2.5 hours, I might arrive as late as 8 or 9; might decide to jet early, in which case I might get in early. Gonna have to get back to pick the dog up sometime around like 4, so will be leaving noon-2 or so.

Hey peeps,
I have 2 fold-out couches, 1 bed and 1 couch. Not a lot of carpet (tile).
So bring an air mattress if you have one (worst care, we don't use it)
Also, bring a sleeping bag, I don't have a lot of blankets and sleeping bags works better for doublin' up on the fold-outs :P Especially when Keebs and I zip them together WHAT.
Will be posting in a bit for activity selection.

We are providing brats, burgers, hot dogs, diet pepsi, pepsi, sprite, bottled water, and juice boxes. We (my wife) asks that you guys chip in with a side dish or two (potato salad, chips, veggie tray). Everyone else coming to my party will be bringing a dish so food will NOT be a problem. :D
Bring a suit AND towel.

Hey all,
OK I tried to grab what I thought might be some of the most popular things to do under $15 on August 2. There are a lot of choices on here, but there are hundreds of things that aren't on here.
Fill out this survey, and I'll combine the results and send out another one to narrow it down. Want to go to the museums? Boat ride? Gaytown? Fine, add it to the end of the survey, I've given you a few places to write in your own stuff.
Answers are confidential, please do this ASAP so I can get going on survey #2.

Weather is looking HOT (95 degrees with 60% humidity)... so bring a good swimming suit. T_T, I still wouldn't bring that speedo. Could scare the kids.... and women. ;D
I'll have gazebos to help shade the area outside along with fans to keep a nice breeze.
So...
Pool for kids and adults.
Fire engine pool for toddlers.
3 gazebos
Fans
3 sets of bean bags games
Ladder Golf
3 full sets of Trac Ball (http://www.wham-o.com/default.cfm?page=ViewProducts&ProductID=47&Category=3)
Brats, burgers, hot dogs, pop, water, juice boxes.

development: I just received word that an apartment I had been working on just freed up for the weekend. It's downtown, which greatly reduces the amount of time spent on the train. (we'll pick up about 2 hours on Saturday)
It's also Pimp with a capital P... as in, it's got a glass wall like the Rainman suite.
1.) Is anyone afraid of heights?
2.) Q, is a pickup at Aurora Metra at 11:46 possible? We'd need a dropoff at 2:20 or 4:20, depending on how much you want IC party folks merging with the kid party
edit: or if there's a closer Metra station, that's fine too, they all leave from the same place so no prob

1.) Is anyone afraid of heights?
Err, I mean, kinda. It's more a moderate fear of falling. Towers, planes, and bridges with adequate guard rails don't bother me at all - you can't fall. Stuff like cliffs, glass barriers and low handrails make me uncomfortable. If you're saying this glass wall is external, I wouldn't expect me to casually wander within five feet of it. ;) I can deal.
It's not the heights one should be afraid of, those aren't the scary parts. It's the very distant grounds which are so terrifying, yes?

We'd need a dropoff at 2:20 or 4:20, depending on how much you want IC party folks merging with the kid partyThat is the easiest metra location but I cannot get out there to pick folks up and same with dropping off since it's during the party. It's not a "kids party", it a party that kids can attend. It's a pool party and an excuse to have friends and family come to the house and hang out.

I truly want to thank the_technocrat. He put in a lot of effort and did his best to make sure everyone was happy(not easy). He even cooked bacon, eggs and pancakes for breakfast for us on saturday! Please thank your dad also for letting us stay in the most swank 45th floor apartment in Chi-town.
I had a really great time. Thank you Q for letting us use the pool.
Once prime has the pictures uploaded, everyone will get to see what an epic time it was.
What we did.
Friday:
9:30pm on arrived at tt's. Has mini-keg bell's, some wine and caught up on times with conversation.
Saturday:
9:30am - tt and I played golf at local par 3 course.
11am - MOTY, tt cooked us a most excellent breakfast.
12:30pm roll out to Q's. Saw a waterpark in the middle of a corn field (wut)
1:30pm-4pm Chilled at Casa de Q. Swam in the pool, played lawn games. Good times.
5:30pm arrived back at tt's and packed for train ride to chicago
7:14pm train is late! and we drove all crazy trying not to be the ones late ;)
7:20pm took train down to union station, then 10 minute walk to tt's high-rise apartment.
8pm - 20 minutes, maybe 30 of jaws-on-the-floor enjoying the view from the 45th floor of tt's downtown apartment.
8:30 - BEER RUN!
9pm - watch sci-fi's "dragon night" on tv and order seriously EPIC pizza. Chicago pizza wins hands down.
12am - Watch Blazing Saddles (this movie is hillarious if you've never seen it)
2am bed.
Sunday - up @ 8:30am to get ready to head to navy pier
9:30am take crazy ass driving taxi to navy pier.
10am The Dark Knight IMAX navy pier, oh hell yea!

2pm walk to where the trolley will pick us up, on way tt gives extra food to a man handing out flyers on the sidewalk.
2-3pm ride trolley to aquarium. go by Soldier Field (da bears!) the planetarium and field museum
3-4:15 enjoy the aquarium.

The best part was hanging out with my IC friends outside of home for a change. I really had a great time with all of you, and I appreciate being dragged out of Warren once in a while :)
