Doom 4 is in development (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/doom-4-announced-id-software-hiring/). Demons expected to jump out of shadows in higher definition.

We can has better gun/flashlight combos plz?
Wasn't the third one a pile of fail? Am I remembering it wrong?
I liked Doom 3 but it was no where as good as the other Doom's nor as good as most of the games of that type.

The real question is if it comes to PC. Carmack has been pretty anti-PC of late. But why would you make a doom game for any other platform?
Thats like Nintendo saying "lol we decided PC is the best platform for all of our Super Mario franchises"

It was perhaps one of the most boring games ever made.
I finished it but I wanted my 5 and a half hours back.

Doom 3 was the worst game I ever paid $50 for.

It's funny. Everyone here really didn't enjoy it (myself included) but the younger kids that played it seem to be eating this new Doom 4 up like crazy, just like they did Doom 3.

That's because the younger kids had nothing to compare it too. I remember playing Doom on win95. Lol. Talk about fun.

Doom3 was really just a game to showcase what the new engine could do.

... I liked Doom3.
Was it spectacular? No. Did it have a satisfying feel to the guns? no. Did it have a chainsaw? yes. But I must admit, I enjoy me some creepy FPS.
That being said, I haven't even touched the game since i beat it, so many years ago. I enjoyed it. But that's about it.
And as for the flashlight deal, I thought it was clever. So many people complained about it, but it was a fear tactic. You either see and have no way to defend youself, or you inch forward in the darkness with guns ready, muzzle flash the only thing illuminating the path.

Doom 3 was not the best, but it was not the "fail" that many said it was. It was a disappointment from a game play standpoint, not a complete fail.
I will gladly try Doom 4, but I just won't expect that much.
doom 3 did not fail, there are plenty of WAY worse games that came out at the time.
It was no where near as good as HL2, but it was still a pretty decent game. Doom3 can keep my 5+ hours i spent to beat it. ;)
then again... i played the xbox version... LOL
I have yet to even play 5 seconds of Doom 3, I'd like to just to say I did but I never got it because everyone was saying it was fail. I don't think this whole "fail" thing existed back then though so everyone just said it sucked.:p

It was a simpler time. God willing, we'll return to it soon.

True, Half-Life 2 really killed Doom3. Here was a much more solid singleplayer experience, and multiplayer experience, and expandibility, and polish... plus you could actually see things.
