just asking for any recommendation on a nice and easy to use free virtual machine
i have used MS Virtual PC 2007 and it seems to have alot of issue with Linux
i have tried VirtualBox which is really good.. just wanna see what other goods one are out there
I am very, very fond of VMWare. Simple to use, has never given me trouble, is very versatile, and their VMWare Workstation version is free.
For windows VMware is the king. On Mac's I keep flipping back and forth between VMware and Parallels.
Another option, depending on what you want out of linux on your windows box is to check out andLinux. It runs linux inside of windows, but not in a pure virtual machine it's more of a merger. I've been testing it now for a few days and I quite like it. It's deb based and is less of a system hog then a VM.
VMware is a god... I know VMware server (http://www.vmware.com/products/server/) is free and has most of the same features as the workstation which is not free (unless Thrax knows something that I do not).
We use VMware Server on Linux to run Windows... We use VMware Server on Windows to run Linux... All proven and works great.

You want VMware server - which is the free one. You do have to register though to get the serial number

i'm quite unfamiliar with vmware... what is the diference between vmware server and vmware desktop?
i mean i'm using a laptop (ASUS G1S) which i will upgrade its ram to max 4GB (currently 2GB)... i'm using Virtualisation for learning purposes of other OS and stuff
i'm using Windows Vista Ultimate
VMware server is really the same. The differences are not noticeable for most casual users. Server is free and workstation is not.
