I opened IE and had a differant home page, 777 search.com or something like that. I went to yahoo, my normal hp, and tried to set it as my home page. The options to set a home page were grayed out! I ran search and destroy and cleaned a bunch of stuff. I ran hijack this and found nothing so I rebooted. Now when I start IE it goes to a blank home page with 'about blank' in the address bar. I can go to yahoo and everything works fine but the home page options are still grayed out.
What do I need to do?

Try system restore.

Did that Mondi, Thanks. It has got my home page back but the hp options are still grayed out. What else can I do to fix that?

:wtf: ...must be old age

I personally have never had the problem. Maybe it changed some registry entry (I don't know which :sad2: ). Maybe you could try A browser extension like MyIE2 or Crazy Browser and see if you still have the problem. You could also try using Mozilla/Firebird. If you've got the time to spare, you could try a repair installation.

Sounds like a browser hijacker. Download Spybot S&D and give it a whirl.

Bothered, one day you and I are gonna get together and raise a glass to old times, when we used to ride the frontier, chasing those wild spyware bandits, shootin' our guns into the air, nabbin' browser rustlers, and makin' trouble.

Or at least we COULD if YOU WOULD STOP GETTING SPYWARE

grrrrr... i'm about to break out the bullwhip....... :D

So nip it in the bud, good sir, get thee to download SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html). "SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed."

This program is more invaluable to me than Spybot or Ad-Aware because if spyware can't be installed, there's no need to look for it.

Routers, zone alarm pro, and antivirus doesn't stop spyware and hijacks. Heh.

Cheers Mr Kitko (and everyone else)
Got and ran blaster. I looked in the tools and a box was checked preventing changing the home page. Unchecked it and now all is back to normal.
Thanks guys.
