View Full Version : Just bought two new gfx boards... what kind of performance can I expect?

I just ordered two new (refurbished) graphics cards from newegg; one as a backup, and the other to upgrade the Rage 128 in my print server.

Since I know someone's going to ask...
Why not use the Rage 128 as a backup?

It's an AGP 2x card; it won't work in my nForce2 boards.

So, I ordered a Transcend Radeon 7500/64MB DDR, and a Transcend Radeon 9000/64MB DDR.

What kind of performance (3dmark '01) are we looking at here?

It's not really a big deal... I just want something a bit faster for the print server because I notice the R128 lagging @ 1600x1200 in 2d sometimes, and because I want to run a higher resolution than that anyhow...

But, I'm curious.

I'm guessing ~3-6k for the 7500, depending on the comp. it's in; my R7500m in my laptop does 5300, so...

As for the R9000... I'd guess 7-9k, depending again on the comp. it's in.

What do you guys think?

the 9000 will probally score a hair less than the "real " 8500's did I had a 8500 that scored 9.5k

Yeah... my 8500 has hit as high as 13,500 though (and yes, that's at 1024x768, default settings)

In stock state, it was more like high 7ks-low 9ks on a 1.4-1.8GHz Athlon/Athlon XP system.

well yea with a 8500 on todays systems it should but mine was on a old pos amd K6 III 450! I was just speaking on experience tho! lol Thats when i was in highschool and was broke and couldnt afford but to either buy a cpu /mobo and let it sit in my room till i got Ram for it that could be 2 months waiting or buy a radeon 8500 off a friend for 150 bucks! and start fraggin away!

Yeesh... a k6...

You realize that I bought the 8500 a month after it came out, and I had a 1.4GHz T-Bird system to put it in, right? :vimp: :D ;D

Less than 5K for the 7500. The 7500 doesn't have DX8.1 features.

I scored 9593 with my Radeon 9000 128. 2.4c @ 2.98

Well, I got both today, and I'm very impressed with the 7500; I'm not so thrilled with the 9000, though.

They both come clocked near 250/200 (core/ram); the R7500 is actually 258MHz core, and I can't complain about that.

The RAM (Transcend brand) on both cards also overclocked fairly happily to 250MHz; there was no artifacting in 3dmark '01 @ 250/250 with the 9000, and only very, very, VERY minor artifacting with the 7500.

Anyhow, at the default speeds, in my NF7-S (which happened to be the most accessible system, since it's out of the case for testing purposes right now), with the 1800 @ 2.2GHz, the scores are:

R7500: ~5600
R9000: ~7400

Not bad... not outstanding, but the R7500 is faster than I was expecting. The R9000, on the other hand... eh. I'm a bit unhappy with it. Not enough to send it back... I mean, for $40, it was a great deal, but my R8500 is a lot faster. The 8500 is a much better card though, too, so...

I only had mine 6 months but it was twice as fast as my old Geforce MX. I was actually very happy with it up until I found these forums. hahahaha Since noone picked up onit in the Deal Depot.. it'll be my contribution to the next SMx machine.

My 8500 LE gets around 10k with the CPU at about ~2 GHz (180 FSB) and with plenty of room for OCing the card and CPU.
