I looked at a laptop computer today that someone was going to give to her kids. It was an HP on XP Home and ran good, but it had a weird problem. The Fn key by the spacebar.

I went to type in a web address, and quickly found out that the number pad was "built in" to the keyboard, normally you'd hold down the Fn key to make the numbers appear instead of the normal letters on those keys.

But in this case, the numbers appeared when the keys were pressed, and you had to hold down the Fn key to make the normal letters appear!

Something is reversed in there, can it be fixed? And if so, how?

There's probably a num-lock key somewhere (my compaq's is Fn-Scroll Lock), which forces the numpad instead of the right hand keys.

press Fn+Numlock

now this numlock key will have the same color as the Fn key...

happens to me alot on my ASUS G1 Gaming Laptop...

this numlock function sometimes randomly gets activated, especially if i close my laptop or cold reboot

Could Also be Shift + Numlock... depends on the brand.

You could also try plugging in a usb keyboard and then togging the numlocks that way.
