View Full Version : McDonald's leaky cups through drive-thru, and a stupid "assistant manager"

So last night before we went to see Dark Knight, brother Thrax requested a jaunt through the McDonald's drivethru for some food before we went 4 hours in a theater.
Okay, no problem, I'm hungry too, plus I can shove cheap food into my kids and make everyone happy, cause there was no way I was going through the concession line last night.
Order: two sandwiches, fries, 2 chicken mcnuggets, and two drinks.
The kid in the white assistant manager's shirt hands me a bag. I hand it over to keebler to dole it out while I turn and reach for the drinks.
The first drink up is a diet coke. I grab the diet coke and the lid immediately explodes off and dumps diet coke all over my lap and shirt. I start shouting. The kid walks away.
Keebler hands me some napkins and I'm starting to sop up the mess. I look up and the kid is handing me another bag. I'm looking at him with incredulity at this point, like "do you ****ing see what happened here, you dumb *******?" At least.. That's what I was thinking. Instead I say "Can you please hand me some napkins?". He says "oh" and turns away to get some napkins. He comes back with a handful, which I start to sop up more diet coke with. Then I grab the bag from him and turn to get the last drink.
I gingerly grab the iced tea and SURE ENOUGH, the LID IS HALF OFF.
I stop. I say, "Hey. Hey man, come here. Look at this. See what you're doing wrong here?" and I emphatically point at the spot where the lid is off. "Do you see this? YOU'RE NOT PUTTING THE LIDS ON ALL THE WAY, THAT'S WHY I HAVE DIET COKE ALL OVER MY LAP".
his reponse?
"sorry"

+1, it happens here too. Honestly, nobody cares about doing the job right anymore. It is starting to appear everywhere.
So... did wet clothes detract from Dark Knight or did you pop back home to change?

Oh there was no way I was letting diet coke, wet pants, and a wet shirt ruin the dark knight for me. It dried as we waited in line for an hour and a half :D

This part of the story somewhat surprised me.
Should have seen the movie at Star John R for $4 with no line.

Well yeah, but he mumbled "sorry" and then closed the window and turned away...

This is the way to world peace, right there. We need a 'pats on the back' smilie.

^5 for the calm response Brian. This would have never happened when I worked in fast food. The least you would have gotten was a sincere apology and probably a free meal card. Now if you had been a complete dick about it, you probably would have only gotten an apology.
That's when a fire in the hole is acceptable later on in the night.

You know, all the McDonalds in Tallahassee are owned by the same franchise and I've never had a problem like that at any of them.
Now when I lived in Orlando...

Yeah, sure that does suck. Honestly.
But you got to remember sometimes, it's not like he's enjoying his time there either. It could have been worse, the kid's zit might have popped and oozed into your food.
...
These people bug me. Could they at least slap on a fake late-night infomercial smile? Nah, they gotta give me their sad ass face all the time. Would you like one of my damn fries, would that make you feel better? Give a smile, teen workers of fast food restaurants, please. At least let me feel good about coming down there so you can earn your minimum wage.
Hehe, I don't hate them, silly!
Well..

I really don't expect much more. At the wages they get paid do you honestly expect them to do a stand up job. They are working for ****ty pay so they are going to do a ****ty job. Working at those jobs they are well below the poverty lines and they are hardly a fair wage. McDonalds makes too much money.

I know when I worked for peanuts, I still did the job to the best of my ability and with a smile on my face. There's absolutely no reason to not perform well. It proves you're worth something. Gets you out of the "****ty pay" situation if you work hard enough.

There isn't much room for advancement at mcdonalds. But that is just my thoughts. When I worked at braums I did my job well enough to not get fired, but didn't go beyond that because I knew I didn't plan on sticking around long and I hated the job. 4 months later I found a job at a printshop and I loved it.
People work much better when they are doing something they enjoy. I've worked fast food, so I guess I understand the plight that the companies usually screw the employees and it just isn't worth 110%. Those jobs are usually just stop gaps.

I would be willing to bet that 85% of McDonald's store and even district managers came from the bottom of McDonald's itself or a similar establishment. It probably doesn't pay much more than 30K, but it beats minimum wage and is a viable career path for many without an education. I think most people understand a lack of motivation to excel at a McJob if you know you can go elsewhere, but I don't think there's any excuse for not being a productive member of society and taking care of those who come in to pay your wages.

Andy is of the "I'll pretend to work if you'll pretend to pay" mentality.
I would say that most people who work at McDonald's, who aren't kids, probably don't have everything they wanted out of life yet and therefore are not that happy with themselves or the world. Whether working at McDonald's is the cause or a symptom of their plight I am not sure.
What I am sure of is that I find McDonald's hash browns to be delicious.

I'm fortunate really. I've only ever been to a Macdonald's twice. Both times there wasn't an option and I have never taken the kids. In my opinion, for the money they charge it has to be crap and the staff have to be low paid. I don't want to encourage them.

right ...and neither "fire in the hole" or brians treatment can be justified.
Brian dramatized what he said. He was vastly more polite (and caps free) IRL.
