View Full Version : EARTHQUAKE!!
We're rockin' and rollin' out here in SoCal...
Just had a 5.8...... aftershocks 3-3.8
You OK?
Yup, just fine - we live 5 miles from the epicenter, but we work miles to the east..
Figure we'll go home to a freaked out dog and cats in a few hours....

I got a call from my girlfriend about an hour ago:
Her: "I'm okay."
Me: "Huh?"
Her: "I just wanted to let you know before it gets on the news."
Me: "I'm glad you're okay. Wait... before what gets on the news?"
Her: "We just had an earthquake."
Me: "Oh, how big?"
Her: "I'll let you know when it finally shows up on the news."
She lives and works about 10 miles South of the epicenter.

Technology is amazing. Word of the earthquake hit the net before any news site had a story up. Sometimes the news comes with too much information, however:

My daughter was in Riverside.
"We were eating lunch outside when it hit and could even see the palm trees swaying with the shaking. It was so cool! And they say there could be more! (Aftershocks FTW)"
>>Sigh<<
Where have I failed?
Got home from work last night to a few skewed pics on the wall, surround sound speakers knocked off top of TV, couple things knocked over in bedroom, and a freaked out cat... Jasmine wouldn't leave my side, other cats, and dog were fine...
Incedently, the Quake was centered where the 57 Freeway and the I-60 merge... This is approximately 8 - 9 miles from our house...

Well.. missed all the action here in Elkhart. Didn't feel a thing. Same old, nothing to see here, move along, ect.
Had a 3.0 aftershock last night at 9:47 pm...
Didn't know anything was going on until the dog woke me up from a dead sleep, barking at the "noise" (earthquakes have a very distinct sound). Then the cat wouldn't leave me the hell alone...
Gonna lock 'em both in the spare bathroom on the other side of the house next time....

I hate earthquakes! We get a lot of them up here so I know what you're talking about. The dog (Turbo) always knows they are coming before we humans do. He'll raise his ears, look at us strangely, then stand up and start to pace. At about that time we hear what sounds like a freight train in the distance. It quickly gets louder and the house shakes. Then my stomach goes in knots as the house gyrates. Damn, I hate it!
Glad you are OK.
We get tons of earthquakes in OH/PA:coffee:
