I just got a new TV yesterday with more HDMI ports than my last one, so now I actually have a spot to plug in my DVR instead of using component cables. I plugged it into my TV using HDMI, but there was no sound but I got a very clear picture. Well, as it turns out, Time Warner "locks" the HDMI port on all of the models except for one. The brand/model is explorer 8240HDC. The only one that has the HDMI unlocked is the 8300 model.

Does anyone know if there are any downloads/hacks/whatever that can unlock the port's audio? I googled it but didn't find anything. It really bothers me that they lock the feature even though there is absolutely NO extra cost at all. It basically comes down to luck whether or not you get the model with it unlocked. They said I can call my local service center, but they're all out currently. I'm so pissed off, the picture was brighter and clearer. Discovery HD looked amazing, but it's not much without audio.

You could always use an optical digital or coax cable for audio. Until they get some 8300's in.

There's no audio out on the DVR except for the component outputs but that doesn't work. Already tried it.

So how were you getting audio before?

//Edit: Just checked the manual online. It has coaxial digital out and the standard RCA left/right out.

Yea, I used the component cables before, so I had audio from the L/R cables.

You should still be able to use them.
