View Full Version : Be Calm, All is Well, BIG BROTHER Steve knows what is best for you..
Those of you with a brandy new 3G Apple iPhone might want to think twice about putting certain applications on your phone, lest Mr. Jobs will give your app the almighty “thumbs down” and remove it at HIS will…..
Resistance is futile, you must comply……

Part of that deal being the government is also allowed to kill apps if they feel they are being used in a way to harm America or in an illegal fashion.

Never heard of this...
There are thousands of website "within" the US that are Anti-American, and could be used in an illegal fashion..
Plus 1000s of applications can be used for "good" or "bad" reasons.....
Yeah this was one of the big things when the new iPhone launched about the gov and Jobs had control over apps being on phones or in the store. Most likely won't make a difference but its just a sign of privacy invasion.

That would be because it's bull****.
Actually they talked about it on G4 right before the launch. Never really known them to be wrong.

That was my thought too.... another internet urban legend

If my judgment on this matter is in error, please direct me to a reputable source where I might learn more.

You respect _k? You clearly haven't seen the date thread. ;)
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10010070-37.html same article on cnet
http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/08/apple-sells-60.html from wired blog and has a reference to confirmation given to the Wall Street Journal by Jobs.
Those articles do nothing to support this claim:
...this was one of the big things when the new iPhone launched about the gov ... had control over apps
Ok so I didn't read the articles, but G4 tv isn't a good enough source for you.
"Trust, but verify." A phrase by Reagan, and particularly apt in this case. If it gets reported once, and nobody else corroborates, it's probably not true.
Ok well there needs to be a grain of salt icon.

I'm gonna play devils advocate for a second. Does anything ever happen all at once? No, there a propaganda campaigns launched to convince the public little by little that certain things are being done for their welfare. All the while the liberty is slowly whittled away so slowly that no one seems to mind because the become accustomed to it.
Personally, I'm not sure if that's where it is heading, but I can see k's point. What he's talking about isn't happening now, probably not even in the next 3-5 years, but it could just be the beginning.
I'm sure this will get rebutted, and that is fine. I think both sides should be presented and the individual allowed to decide for himself what he shall believe.:smiles:
What does the slippery slope of civil rights have to do with the unfactual claim that the government is in ur iPhone, blockin' ur apps? That's not devil's advocacy, that's just a red herring.

FUD mirite?
Sometimes it seems like some are OK with "(APPLE)-insert any corporate entity here - BIG BROTHER" but get all scrunchy-faced and mad at "GOVERNMENT BIG BROTHER"......
either way we're being conditioned to give up more personal freedoms for "our benefit"..
Heck, even I was willing to give up personal freedom with a previous thread about microdot printing on all printers....

I'm more worried about google than the federal government, to be honest, but HEY, GOOGLE IS COOL, MIRITE?
PR is amazing. Anything can be spun

Personally, my real concern is a combination thereof, where Google or someone like them gets strong-armed by the NSA or DHS for access to massive databases of private information. I'm not your average whacko tinfoil hat guy, but I've always feared government more than anything.

In a further extension, Apple's decided that even their app rejection letters fall under their NDA. (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/09/23/apple-extends-non-disclosure-to-app-store-rejection-letters/)
What the hell is this world coming to?
