On Friday Canadian copyright regulators ruled that downloading off peer-to-peer networks is legal, although apparently uploading files is not. This news adds a new spin to the continuing debate over the right and wrongs of P2P file sharing. So it seems in the great Canadians eyes, it's the sharer that it the wrong doer, not the downloader.

The peer-to-peer component of the decision was prompted by questions from consumer and entertainment groups about ambiguous elements of Canadian law. Previously, most analysts had said uploading was illegal but that downloading for personal use might be allowed.

"As far as computer hard drives are concerned, we say that for the time being, it is still legal," said Claude Majeau, secretary general of the Copyright Board.

OH Canada! :D

$25.00? PFFT. Pocket change for the ability to legally perform downloads.

Well, this means you can DOWNLOAD the file, but you cannot SHARE it.

From what I understand, the RIAA is looking for people SHARING their "material" on Kazaa. They have not, and have no way to know who simply has downloaded the files, and is not sharing them.

Therefore, people in Canada could still get nailed by the RIAA, in the same manner as they are doing it now.

RIAA has no juristiction up here.

They can't "nail" me in any way, shape or form. Their evil grasp stops at the sign that ways "WELCOME TO CANADA. RIAA & REPUBLICANS NOT PERMITTED" ;)

5*C today, sunny, no wind and no snow accumulation.

We might be in for a green christmas this year... which rarely happens in these parts...

Canada Sucks eh? Come on up here. It's not as bad as you may think it is...

I'm running my air conditioning and have been since I moved in here can you say that?
I'll deal with a few days of snow per winter as opposed to a few days of sun per winter thank you.

A/C? What's that. It's 50 below in the winter and 50 above in the summer @ my place...

At least you have predicable weather. "Today it will be.... **** knows, whatever it feels like at this exact point in time, probably grey and raining".

I want snow ;[

LOL...my point exactly...it's close to 35 degrees outside and my A/C is on as I sit here typing this.
No A/C and it would be way too warm here to sleep under any form of covers.
I'll trade P2P file sharing for comfort and driving safety any day of the week, I can get my pr0n from google :D

35*F or *C?

Myself, someone who doesn't wear a jacket outside until it's -15*C outside, can't sleep in 35*F weather without covers.....

Driving in snow is not nearly as bad as driving with Quebecers.. :D

/me ducks from the poutine, Vachon cakes and random french profanity flying in his general direction...

F. not C. LOL, I think that driving around here's OK as long as Texans aren't around...those guys get downright crazy and I was raised in California.
