God guys the demo is freaking great. It makes me want to play the full version so much. Me and Caffran were playing it today on the hardest setting possible and barely, barely, barley made it through. If we would have fought a Tank instead of a Witch we would have been screwed. An entire campaign on that setting would be damn near impossible.

It does seem random when the hoards come. But the music starts building just before it. They used the sound perfect to intensify everything. Very intense and more team oriented then TF2. I hopped on and went through the first "scene" with Idiot_slayer and Caff. Sorry I had to leave after that guys.

Been through the one player a few times. The one thing that comes into play a lot is friendly fire. The AI for the survivors has them stepping in front of you as you unload on a swarm of incoming zombies. Online players have a tendency to do this also. Because you can shoot your own team, it makes working together even more important.

I can't wait for the 4 on 4.

Played two rounds of the demo. One with real people and the second with AI. The game is very well made. Graphics are awesome and the zombies are refreshing.

First round I somehow started a server and some people joined (am I actually hosting?). Maybe it's because we're all new but the other 3 were really gung ho. You don't just run into a room with a crap load of zombies. Played it on easy and we beat it easily.

Second round I had to play with the AI since my connection had dropped. There I played on Normal. Since the AI follows you, I was able to be a bit more tactful. Used the handgun since it has a lot of ammo (not unlimited during the first half of the demo). Got to the door way and start knocking off zombies you see in site. If you're not in the middle of the room or in the street they won't come at you in droves. Takes a bit of fun out of it without all the frantic shooting but you've got to do it to win. Playing with people you know should be easier, especially coming from a team oriented game (TF2).

One thing I do dislike is the lack of comm. A game like that I think it's needed. Other than that I like it. I'll buy it as soon as I can scrounge up some money.

I certainly would never spend money on a team-based FPS that didn't have voice-chat, not after seeing how useful it is in TF2.

Fo'sho a good party game. Really fun with the swarming, nice to know you are back to back with some good people instead of up against a wall. Its only fun on hardest settings other wise there aren't enough zombies. On medium in the first stage I was high kill on a pub game with 92 next was 28.......shotgun ftw.

I found the shotgun to be the better starting weapon on the lower difficulties but on expert I think the SMG is the better bet, at least until you get to the auto shotgun.

The default key is 'c'. You can change it to v if you want (that's what I did, too used to v as well.)

For those that have been through the demo 80 times: shoot the cars, bring on the witch, try to run as fast as you can through the level and have some fun

For 1st through 79th runs, steady pace, don't shoot the cars and ignore that dumb witches cries.

Note: if you are in group 2 with 3 group 1ers with you, prepare to die.

Couple good runs tonight. We killed some Tanks, didn't know that was even possible.

Played quite a few rounds last night. Awesome game!! Fatcat and I found out what happens when you jump off the roof at the beginning. It's definitely a team oriented game. I can't wait until the full game and controlling some zombies in versus mode. 4 vs. 4 IC vs. battles will be pretty epic.

Just tried expert with Canti, Lynx, and Canti's friend. No avail. We keep getting stuck in the sewers. Tonight will be the night.

We saw a witch. I told the team "Stay on the left side of the train. No flashlights." We run past the train, or at least I thought we did. I turned around and see Lynx (he was Francis) right over the witch pointing at her. His character screaming "WITCH!!!" Then we lost.

Something that has always annoyed me in source games is the inability to have a toggle crouch. It really is annoying this game because if you accidentally let go of the crouch button you stand up and most likely are greeted with a dosage of shrapnel in the back.

If you want your crouch button to be toggled (push once to crouch, push again to stand) add this to the "autoexec.cfg" file in the ..\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead demo\left4dead\cfg folder

We seriously worked like a Special Ops Squad. It was awesome.

The key to winning is EXACTLY what fatcat said in his Gaming Article. Lots of talk (you need a mic in this game). You must know where teammates are and let them do their job. You have to have at least one guy watching your back at all times. There are loads of zombie hordes that come from behind.

If your team can master those elements, you can beat expert.

Another tip though: Don't let the Boomer throw up!!! It causes a swarm of Infected to attack from all sides. Every time!

Boomers ain't shit but hoes and tricks. If the guy who gets barfed on just high tail's it and finds a nice doorway to defend the rest of the group can easily pick the horde apart because they don't attack the rest of the group.

I actually did not know that. Thanks for the tip. But when it happens in the ticket booth part of the 2nd area, there really isnt a place to defend.

What strategies did you guys use? Run like hell?

Actually no. It is a little more important to move quickly than you realize. Single file seemed to work best and really going after the zombie bosses because they have low HP they don't like confrontation. Machine gun for the win. Exploit for reload do a melee to reload faster. When you start to get swarmed you use that a lot. Get the tank in a tight spot, on a train or in a hallway and have one person on each side so one runs away he turns and goes for the other one, repeat while unloading on him and you do not have to take damage if you can get around the stuff he throws. Gas cans are a god send if you set them up in walls, no one gets through.

Last night we played a couple rounds on Advanced and beat it, then tried Expert. The closest our team managed was the warehouse/generator room with the turret. A Tank came out through the hole in the floor and abused everyone pretty badly.

Well finally got it to run consistently tonight. Drop my res, turn off AA and such, lower settings, kill Vsynch and it seems to be ok. Ran through to the hospital alone and seemed to be good. Love the game though, tons of fun. Time to take on the Zombies with some humans!

Why would I play on expert with people I don't know?

I always ended up dying though right before the rescue. On the roof of the hospital we all ran to the chopper and I was heading up the ramp and as I turned around to shoot the chasing zombies I got hit by boomer spew. Half-blinded I shot my autoshotty and just slipped off the ramp. I got surrounded and torn apart. Only one of us made it.

The other time we were heading to the dock for the slowest friggin' boat ever to pick us up. We were holding everything pretty well until a tank charges the dock and guess who he chooses to hit first? Yours truly. He knocks me clear into the woods. As I fly through the air yelling "NOOOOO!!!!" I see the boat pick everyone up. Bah! Still only two of us made it.

Those last moments have been the most amazing tense moments. Its awesome!

I have to say the campaign that Rexxar, fatcat, tiberiuslazarus, and I did last night was some of the most fun I've had at a computer in a long time. Great game, great scenario, great teammates, and great competition (EVEN if they did get owned! Sorry, Eggroll, Pseudonym, and J.).:rockon: This game is already worth the 50$ and with Versus and Coop Expert, I expect the fun to just keep on coming. Imagine when they start adding levels, classes, and different weapons/abilities ala TF2!!!!

We just played a round of Dead Air vs. It has some kinks that need to be worked out, but for being a straight pull of the campaign map its ok. Hopefully Valve releases the real maps shortly.

I really enjoy playing as the infected, but does anyone else find it difficult? I can never seem to land a pounce and my bind always seems to break as smoker before I can do damage. Maybe it's just me though.

Yeah I found it really hard at first. Like so hard I thought it was just stupid.

As infected if you don't work as a "team" with the other infected you are ****ed.

You have to talk to the other infected players and work together or it's gonna be a massive fail.

It seems to me the objective of the Infected players is not to 'win', it is to make the game interesting for the survivors.

As simple as it is, you're just trying to get more points than the other guys. Stall tactics work well - you're doing your job if you're an annoying and pestering infected player. Making the game interesting for survivors is a good way of putting it.

When I'm the tank I like to kill the witch, punch zombies and help survivors back up. They still shoot at me for some reason.

I really enjoy playing as both the Infected and Survivors in Versus matches. The groups play very differently and that adds replay value, especially if they tie achievements into new abilities similar to TF2. Playing as a Survivor is much more hectic, confusing, and nerve racking. Playing the Infected requires more accurate coordination, timing, and communication.

The only thing that gets me in Versus mode is when people quit as soon as they enter the lobby. It seems that if the infected has already been selected, and someone joins, they quit. So sometimes it takes a while to get a team going. I love playing as both in Versus because it's just so different.

Wall jumping seems to be a key part of the Hunter strategy. If you manage to land from a high place the unfortunate survivor loses more health than if the Hunter was at ground level. Yay gravity!!!

Are you GPU folding bothered? You could try running it with the client paused to see if that helps.
