How many people on here enjoy the sound of vinyl spining?
My dad has an old kenwood hi-fi receiver and a pioneer pl-530 turntable with an ortofon moving coil cartridge. He has tons of good albums and I really enjoy the sound of the vinyl even if there is the occasional hiss or pop.
I recently (as of last night) found out that even new releases are being pressed which is pretty cool. I'm thinking of buying a hi-fi system this summer and until then begin working on my collection.
I've been looking at several turntables mainly music hall and thorens models. I was looking at a NAD receiver and I'll probably build my own speakers as I can model and construct my own much cheaper and with higher quality. Not to mention the satisfaction of building something great. And I can finish them however I want, probably some nice mahogany burl veneer. But I also like purpleheart if you're a woodworker.
Anyway, how many other stereophiles do we have on here?

I like to buy records. It's really cool that most new releases come with free digital downloads too so I can enjoy the album at home and away.

Is there anyone who HAD to use vinyl records (before CDs) that actually WANTS to use them now? What's next - a resurgence of wax Edison cylinders? I was so glad to sell off my expensive turntable stuff and donate my records to charities when CD technology became affordable.

I favor vinyl over CDs. I'm short on funds right now, but I have plans to outfit myself with analog equipment from the turntable to the amp. There are a two DIY kits from this company (http://www.hagtech.com/) that I've been looking to build one of these days.

With a high fidelity amp and an expensive stylus, a new vinyl record is probably better than most CD recordings....
until you've played the record a few times and the grooves start to wear down.
You guys have at it. Good riddance, I say.
Vinyl, magnetic tape, CD, and digital. They're like ice cream; each has it's own flavour, and who wants the same one all the time?

You understand the need to have 12 versions of Eleven > Lovelight, which is why you also understand why some choose vinyl and some choose CDs.

Yeah, I grew up with vinyl, always saving to upgrade to a better stylus, cartridge or deck with better bearings, anti skate or whatever. I had Hi-Fi taste but only human post concert ears. One thing I've noticed, the 'ophiles' keep getting younger. Now they point out 'but there's more info on Vinyl then CD'. So what? Music should never be about technology (like it needs to be with vinyl) it should be simply listened to and enjoyed.
unless it's that modern stuff which isn't real music anyway, not like in my day, you had to know how to play something then, not like now, kids eh? pfff.

Yeah, I remember spending as much time trying find the optimal combination of laser-controlled platter, latest-greatest stylus/cartridge combo, optimal amp for hiss, wow, and flutter control. By the time everything was dialed in, the music had lost much of its dynamic range and subtleties due to grooves degradation. I remember my first CD player and first handful of CDs purchased - put the darn things and listen, listen, listen. Don't have to get up and turn the record over after only little more than half an hour.

I own a couple of singles from various bands on vinyl and only play them on random occasion. I like it.

I've kept a box full of my old vinyl's. I have no turntable to play them though.
They mostly 80's music. Maybe I'll flog em on e-bay one day and make a few dollars.

Even through my solid-state receiver vinyl sounds better to me. The music has more volume. It sounds richer to me. Now that I have a system that plays SACD I'm thinking about getting some of the titles I listen to often. Perhaps move my Pink Floyd collection to SACD.
