View Full Version : Closing my bookstore

I've had a Half.com bookstore for many years. It was a fun hobby, and it made me a little money on the side. However, over the past couple of years, half.com (and the eBay family in general) has become much less friendly to the low-stock seller, as they focus more and more on sellers who are making real businesses out of the service. My own stock is being trampled by legions of under-cutters and mass sellers. It's just not as fun of a hobby as it used to be.

Therefore, I'm closing my bookstore. I'm going to keep some of the expensive textbooks up there, but I'm no longer going to spend my time hunting through garage sales looking for neat books to sell, and I'm no longer going to store an inventory of books in my house. I'd like to sell off as much as I can before the end of January, when I'll just sell the rest of the books as a single lot. To this end I've lowered a lot of the prices on my books. Many of them down to the minimum allowed by half.com ($.75+shipping).

I figured I'd give you guys a heads-up about my 'going out of bussiness sale' :)

That totally sucks that you have to close your store. I hope you find a new hobby to do in the new year.

P.S. If you really get a thrill out of looking for books visit your local library and ask what they need. Then you can find some for them and get a tax credit certificate for your donations. It's a win win. You get to be on the hunt and they get the books they really need.

Libraries are cool!!!!

Sorry to hear that. The library idea is a good one, you could also check out some goodwill stores to donate to for a tax credit. Best of luck on the next hobby you pickup.

Update. I just went through and lowered prices again, Of the 117 book and 1 VHS cassette which remain in the store, only the three big textbooks are still priced above $.75 + shipping.

If any of my Icrontic friends want some of these books, just let me know, and I'll get them to you even cheaper than the half.com minimum price. ;)
