View Full Version : Amazon actually... listened?

I ordered some books on 2-day shipping, so they shoulda been here Friday. They still didn't arrive yesterday (Monday), and showed up as in Ohio still which makes me think they ain't making it here today either.

So, I track down the customer service form and write a "Hey, what the heck, I paid for 2-day and got 5-day, give me a refund" message... mostly to make myself feel better, because what are the odds of them actually doing that, right?

Thanks for writing to Amazon.com to bring this to our attention.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the late delivery of this shipment. We do take full responsibility for any delays that result from errors made during shipping.

In an effort to compensate you for this inconvenience, I've requested a full refund of the shipping charges $15.96 you paid for this package.

This refund should go through within the next 3 to 5 business days and you should see a credit of $15.96 on your next credit card billing statement.

That... that actually... worked? :wtf:

Amazing, isn't it?

NewEgg is similarly awesome. They goofed my order for the i7 build and it took 2 weeks to get parts instead of 2 days. They refunded all shipping charges plus another $20 and were very gracious about it.

Granted, I buy a bit more than books from them. /grin

Just wait. It'll get to 8-10 business days, and then you'll write saying "wtf, you said 3-5 business days for my refund."

And then they'll take it all back. :p

My worst shipping experience has been with Amazon, though - who knew Super Saver shipping meant "Don't worry about getting this any time soon, we'll send it out when we feel like it."

They're not machines after all. Although I'm convinced Jeff Bezos is just an amalgam of other successful CEOs.

I've found Amazon customer service to be pleasantly helpful on all occasions I've had to deal with them.

Although I'm convinced Jeff Bezos is just an amalgam of other successful CEOs. No way. He is one of the true great pioneers of the Internet age. He taught the business world how to blend high technology, the market, and innovative thinking into a huge success. Jeff Bezos is a giant both in the business and technology worlds.

In my opinion, he ranks right up there with Henry Ford for business innovation.

Zappos actually offers $1000 every two weeks for employees that no longer wish to work for the company. They're so concerned with customer service that they'll pay off the less dedicated employees, leaving the ones that actually turn down the money on the other end of the phone with you.

It started at $100 and has gradually increased.

Dude, that's pretty incredible.

I had a customer service job once. They paid $7/hr plus commission for retaining customers who wanted to terminate their subscriptions to the services supported by the call center, which generally meant that the only way to make money was to go out of your way to do exactly the opposite of what the customers wanted.

That was a winning policy, if you ask me. I got fired for missing a day of work.

I worked a call center doing technical support for the Kroger Company. It was a contract-to-hire position and after the contract was up they chose not to hire me because they said I was too relaxed. Seriously? Too relaxed? Not even, your performance sucked or something like that, I was too relaxed? Oh well...

H&M has good customer service as well. I bought a shirt from them once and it shrunk abnormally small after being hung-dried. I tried to return it, but the branch said they couldn't take it because it was washed.

I e-mailed customer support and explained my problem. They sent me a prepaid-DHL bag to overnight it with, sent a handwritten apology, refunded my purchase, and gave me a 25% off card for my next purchase.

Most American companies do have good customer service, especially when you go above just store customer service. They figure if you're concerned enough to write an e-mail, you'd be equally committed to bad-mouth them to your friends. Negative word-of-mouth can be poisonous to sales.
