View Full Version : Tungsten Carbide Wedding Bands - Pt2
Some here may remember my thread from last year on Tungsten Carbide Wedding Bands (http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68611&highlight=Tungsten).
RING PIC HERE (http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69026&highlight=wedding+pics) (Different Thread)
My wife and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary on Dec 30th, so I thought this would be a good time to do an update.
I wear my band almost 100% of the time. Working on the car, house repairs, etc, I never take it off..
After a full year of wear there is no damage. No scratches, dings, or marks. As you can see in the picture from the old thread, there is a raised brushed area in the center of my ring. Even this area is free of damage!
I'll try to post a new pic, but I'm not sure if our digital camera can get close enough.
To any soon to be married guy here, if you do any sort of regular manual labor - work or home, I'd say this is the ring for you...
Also if you're in the market to forge a chastity belt for your daughter...

Congratulations on your first wedding anniversary RADA! I haven't worn a wedding ring in years because I lost mine. I'll have to consider a tungsten carbide when I decide to replace the old one I can't find. :)

I actually ended up getting a white gold band. It has a lifetime protection plan on it, so if it gets all scuffed up I can take it in and they'll repair it. I didn't like the tungsten bands as much as I thought I would as they were alot duller than I expected.
Yup, I'm still very happy with mine as well.

The only thing I would mention on this is that white gold is actually yellow gold mixed with an alloy and then plated with nickle or palladium. I've had to get mine replated every 8months-1 year to keep it shiny. The upside is that every year or so its like having a brand new ring. The downside is that every year or so you spend at least a week without your ring.
Edited to fix a word.

Betsy, they plate your ring with Rhodium, not nickel, or palladium.
White gold is an alloy mix of 53% 14K gold, WITH nickel, platinum or palladium as the added white metal.
My wife has her's Rhodium dipped just about as often.

Eh, as long as the people doing the plating know which metal goes where Im all good ;)

Yes, I knew about the white gold as that's what Suzy's rings are as well. And the Zales down here can do the plating the same day so you're only without the ring for an hour or less (which you can spend wandering around the mall anyways.)

And use that hour to pick up mall-rats?

Is it true that the Tungsten can't get cut off your hand using traditional methods. A buddy of mine just got married and got a Tungsten ring and said that was a concern attached to it.

It's really not that difficult: they use a tool that looks like the bastard-child of an industrial bolt cutter and a nut cracker. It "cracks" the ring more than "cuts" it... If you hit a TC ring hard enough with a hammer it will fracture.
Also, I think a diamond dusted saw blade would do the trick.

I just got married this past Saturday and my ring is a tungsten carbide just as Rada has. It is very well made and looks awesome. I got it because with me going into the Army I need a ring that will hold up. I'm glad I got it, I love the raised ring around it.

Thanks for the comment. I was considering one of those if and when we can finally get all the med bills taken care of for me and my girl.
Currently, I went out and bought her a nice simple but quality whitegold ring, and...... got myself a cheap 20 buck walmart ring that looks similiar to hers, because I figure, its an engagement ring, Im going to mess it up anyways. Heh. Been wearing the dang thing for 2+ years now.

My aunt and uncle just gave us a $500 engagement gift. We're putting it towards our wedding rings. As soon as we get them we're heading to city hall.

If you dont mind my saying, I'm new, I dont know you, but at the least, get one of your friends to get ordained over the internet, and go to a field, or a snowy hilltop, and have a quick free ceremony there over doing it at the courthouse. Just to add a bit more to the memory.
But thats just me. /nod
