The Cooler Master V8 heatsink was epic, but check out the forthcoming V10 (http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1717/exclusive_look_at_cooler_master_s_v10_heatsink/index.html).<br /><br />Original Post (http://icrontic.com/ticker/cooler-master-v10-heatsink-preview)

This heatsink has SEKRIT TEC!

That's a laughable, expensive monstrosity considering that it can't beat some year-old, air-only, inexpensive coolers. I am a huge fan of Cooler Master cases. In fact, I consider their high-end cases superior to Lian Li's. Cooler Master also has some excellent PSUs (but not all of them) in their lineup, but Cooler Master can't seem to figure out how to make a no-nonsense high performance CPU heatsink! What's with this company? Great products in general but their heatsink engineers are on LSD.

BTW, I don't think the Cooler Master V8 was "epic." It never performed very high in the rankings when compared with competitive units in its class. It looked cool, that was it.

Thanks for posting the article. Even though I think Cooler Master just hatched a toad with feathers, I always enjoy reading about new cooling engineering - effective or otherwise.

The V8 consistently scored high marks for performance comparable to the TRUE. Considering Cooler Master's years of FAIL heatsinks, I think it's pretty epic of them to release a product that made the performance jump from piss-poor to top-tier in one design iteration.

I wouldn't call the V10 laughable either. There's clearly potential (http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/14861-cooler-master-v10-cpu-cooler-review-14.html) there to beat every air cooler in HWC's arsenal if the TEC would turn on.

There's clearly potential (http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/14861-cooler-master-v10-cpu-cooler-review-14.html) there to beat every air cooler in HWC's arsenal if the TEC would turn on. Absolutely agree on that, the potential is there. And that's why I enjoyed the review: it's a cooling innovation to combine TEC, heatpipes, and old school aluminum fins all in one bolt-on assembly, straight out of the box. But my point was that at a suggested $135 and as huge as it is, the V-10 in present state appears to be a curio and not much else.

If I'm wrong about the V8, I'll eat crow. Well, we don't have crows up here, but we do have their big cousins - ravens. I'll eat one of them. Seriously, maybe I just missed the reviews where the V8 performed competitively.

Frosty Tech's V8 review (http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2314&page=5)

OK, I'm looking for my 20-gauge and Raven lure. Hmm, crock pot or deep fried?

A note on the TRUE ('here Leo goes again, badmouthing the TRUE'): beating the TRUE is not necessarily a stellar achievement, if the tested TRUE is one of the many units shipped with a peaked base. Now, outperforming or just coming close to a TRUE with a flat base is indeed quite an accomplishment.
