SO I want to do basic image processing using Adobe cs3 - most off Photoshop. I have been thnking of gitten a real cheep net book copmuter like a Samsung NC10. i've noticd that most of em come with the Atom processor and 1 GIG memory. Can this net book run Photoshop? Speed isn't really an importen factor.

Atom processor and 1 GIG memoryYou're thinking of doing grocery shopping for a family of six with a bicycle and a hand basket. Sorry, netbooks are designed for email, Internet, and light office applications. There's only so much processing power of any type - memory, CPU, video - that you can pack in a tiny package. Speed isn't really an importen factor. I think speed would all of a sudden become a factor with Photoshop running on a 1GB Netbook. For processing power, the netbook as at about a year 2001 standard. Maybe you good find a very old version of the software that designed for slow computers. But then, it probably wouldn't be compatible with the Netbooks' operating system.

tee hee - that's pretty funny! So photoshop would take up too much power? it wouldn't just run slow?
Netbooks run photoshop just fine. Make sure you purchase a netbook that can be expanded to 2GB of memory, and you'll be alright.
My MSI Wind that comes with Windows XP runs Photoshop well.

it wouldn't just run slow?If you only worked on very low resolution images, like wallet size, it probably wouldn't be too bad. Why a netbook? I think they are pretty cool, but definitely a limited use, niche product.

ok, so now i'm a little confused. I just have to get one with 3GB and I'll be fine? Perhaps I need to look at the MSI Wind.

Price was a good reason. I have a friend of mine who has an acer aspire who loves it and it only cost about $240. I just found a Wind for $300.

Leo, netbooks have come a long way, not sure what you're thinking of - but a netbook with an atom and 1gb of memory is faster than my opteron 170 with 1gb of memory, and that thing runs photoshop like a dream.

Faster than your Opteron 170. Either Opteron 170 was a slug (I wouldn't call it that), or, yes indeed, I am definitely not up to date concerning Netbooks.
Barackrocksall, sorry that I steered you wrong.

While the clock rate of the Opteron 170 is indeed higher, I believe an Atom is faster even at a lower clock.
