Several people -- including Mary Parks of Blacksburg -- have driven from their workplace to the day-care center to pick up the child they'd thought they'd dropped off, never noticing the corpse in the back seat.

omfhorrible

Breaks my heart.

^ This. There were many times when I didn't want to read any more, but the marriage of palpable grief to profound insight kept me reading.

I stopped for a while and came back to it after posting it.

I've done something like this on a much smaller scale. I've forgot to buckle Braeden because I got distracted buckling Piper. Freaked me out when I got to the store 2 miles away....

I've also left my work and realized I forgot Piper at daycare because my wife normally picks her up... Luckily I was only 10 minutes away when I remembered.

It freaks me out to think that I can be so distracted and/or in a rut as to forget a child. These stories really, really scare me. I can not imagine how horrible the parents feel or the lifetime of pain they will go through.

I quit the article half way through - the feeling of sadness and sickness was too much.

Leo, the last 6 paragraphs give a little hope after wading through that morass of sadness, if you want to skip to it.
