Room for Zalman ZM NB-47J

Does the Zalman ZM NB-47J fit on a NF7-S rev. 2.0, with a Thermalright SLK-947U mounted?

yes as long as you mount the slk-947u fins away from the north bridge. It can be made to fit otherwise by bending teeth (or fins) on the nb-47j but not recommended.

You mean that I should mount the 947 horizontal instead of vertical?
There is on problem though, as I see it.
If it is vertical the PSU can draw air through the fins, that isn't possible when mounted horizontal.

Maybe I should look at some other, smaller, NB coolers.

yes that is how mine is mounted ...I bent on tooth to get it seated properly and it works great.

the tornado is sucking thru the fins and thru the nb-47j ...thru the duct and out thru the blowhole.

The best fan for the SLK-947U is that the 80mm TT Smartfan 2?
I have read that 92mm fans are not that effective on the SLK

I'm sure that many would agree with that ...as far as noise etc is concerned.
I don't have that particular fan but I'd sure like to give it a try.

My duct only accepts 80mm and not 92mm.
I have tried the tornado 80mm sucking & ducted vs the 92mm sucking & non ducted and the 80mm is far superior in that respect. As far as the most effective I would say that 80mm is probably the most effective of the two but I have no references only speculation.

I found a Smartfan 2 Coolmod at a price of $13.7.
They had a few left in stock. It was among their Clearance items.

I used a shop in Germany, their shipping was similar to the shops here in Denmark.
And I saved a lot of money on the HS.
It is retailing at $67 here in Denmark their price is $47.5.
My total order consists of:

I suppose I don't have to use the probe ...the thought of that thing interfering with the cpu or heatsink contact makes me uncomfortable.

Well don't put it between the CPU & the heatsink! ;D

You're supposed to put it next to the cpu core, or on the base of the heatsink; either way, you'll get thermal control that doesn't interfere with the CPU or heatsink contact. It'll run a bit hotter (3-5*F in my case) than running it at full speed all the time, but it'll be quieter.

If any temp difference between as3 and as5 it shouldn't be more that 1c-2c. I would use the as3 after the reviews I've read.

Just to add something to the thread, apart from my obvious love of Wine Gums, my Zalman NB cooler wouldn't fit next to my Zalman CNPS7000A-ALCU HS/F originally, so I just bent off some of the (NB) sinks rods and now it fits and works like a dream. Though I wouldn't really advise doing that if you plan to overclock.

Unfortunately I didn't receive any winegums with my order. :(
Maybe the other guy got a special shipment?

I have postponed my NB heatsink puchase.
I gave the fan a drop of oil instead, and now there is no noise coming from it.
Maybe I will reconsider in a few months.
