View Full Version : Unique (?) problem with itunes. Help!
Ok, about 2 months ago, I turned on my computer and went to itunes and the page for itunes had shifted over to the left so that only the right half of the page was showing (the remainder of the screen showed the previous page: my homepage, or whatever I had been on). I tried clicking and dragging on the edge of it's screen and managed to move it to the right about one inch, but that's it.
I tried, at the suggestion of a friend, to upload the latest version of itunes to fix the problem, but nothing changed.
I can't find any reference to this problem on itunes troublshooting stuff.
So, basically, I can't access any of my music because those buttons are on the left side of the page and I only have the right half.
Has anyone ever heard of this before and can anyone help me?
Thank you so much.
Megan
Bizarro. Can you post a picture of what you mean, Megan?

Are you using a PC or a Mac?
All right, this is where I reveal the true, horrifying depths of my lack of computer knowledge/skills:
a) I have NO idea how to post a picture
b) I actually don't even know the difference between a pc and a mac. I have a computer from Dell and windows xp. Does that help?
Picture this: you look at your screen and it has whatever page on it, let's say, your Netflix queue. Then, you click on the green "start" button on the uppermost left corner of your screen and click on "itunes". The itunes page comes up, but you can only see the right half of it's page. It is positioned on the left side of your screen. So what you see on your screen is now, on the left half, the right half of itunes, and on the right half of your screen is the previous page (Netflix queue), of which you only see the right half of, since itunes is covering the left side of the screen.
I hope that helps you visualize it. I guess this IS a unique problem, eh?
Thanx, Megan

When you're in this half-and-half situation, does itunes still respond normally if you click around the right side? What responds if you click around the left side? Itunes, your web browser, or nothing?
Does this problem happen with any other programs besides itunes? Have you got something else you can test it with?
For anyone else reading this, I've had problems like this when running a full screen application over things like Windows Sidebar or (once or twice) Skype. Generally it accompanies a resolution change, though - like loading up a game or something.
(By the way, you're on a PC. A mac is just a specialized PC that is built by the Apple company and loaded with the macintosh operating system - that means it doesn't (usually) have Windows, so its look and feel (and inner workings) are almost completely different).
Myrmidon: Yes, I can do stuff like entering an artist's name into "search" and it will come up with songs by that artist. Of course, I can't actually access any of my music since those buttons are all on the missing left side of a normal itunes page.
I just upgraded my itunes to the 8.1.1 version to see if it would help, but it did nothing.
I'm going offline now, but I look forward (with hope and optimism) to seeing if any of you have new suggestions.
Thanx so much!
Megan
A picture would solve everything. Megan, can you get one for us?
OMG!!! I just solved it! I can't believe it, especially since it was so easy! Here's what I did:
I had the (half) itunes page up and I right-clicked on the blue "itunes" tab at the very top of my screen and then I clicked "maximize" and, ta-dah!
Isn't that crazy? It's been like that for 3 months!!! And that was all I had to do after all. Sigh....
Well, thanx for your help and interest, and at least know we know how to solve this problem in the future for anyone else.
Thanx, you guys are great!

You're becoming an expert before our very eyes :D
Ha! Ohh, that'll take a loooong time, trust me. But thanx. :)
