I overheard someone discussing GNU firmwares for DSLRs at EPIC and was curious if anyone could vouch for quality and availability. The AF behavior on my EOS 20D is really starting to piss me off and right now I don't have money for a new back. The camera can't decide if it's in focus with AF enabled and will jitter the focus ring until I slap the MF toggle pretty much anytime I'm shooting indoors. If there's a software fix I'd like to try it but since MF still works I also don't want to brick the camera.

I've used open-source firmware on previous cameras, but never on a DSLR for the precious-commodity reason. As with all things, check out the options and then wait for other people to test the water for you.
