I sent a friend a video and when she went to open it her computer started acting crazy, like the cursur tap would not set sill. She was unabe to turn off her PC. It did this all day lond. She called me and I told her to try a restore back to yesterday. She did this but still could not delete the e-mail from outlook.

What can I do to help my friend delete a message from outlook that she says will not allow her to delte?:O

Not really a hardware question.

You can delete your entire mail box and outlook will recreate it then down load any messages on your mail server. depending on whether your account has been set up to keep a copy of your mails on the mail server or not will depend on whether you loose all your other emails. have a look over in the general software forum and you will find the instructions on how to do this in another post.

If she's just getting her mail through pop, odds are deleting her mailbox will delete all her mails.

Is she using outlook or outlook express?

Is she using outlook or outlook express?

She says she has an old computer about 10 years old so I think she is using outlook 6, not sure of this because she is in TN and I am in FL

That doesn't really help. So by outlook 6 I assume you mean outlook express 6.

The easiest trick is to get her to install Thunderbird (http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/). When she installs it, it will ask her to import her Outlook Express settings/mail/address book. Have her do that. That should fix the problem.

Then tell her to keep using Thunderbird for he email needs as Outlook Express is one problem after another waiting to happen.

Thats really cool but this lady is in her 70's and really has no undeerstanding of her PC at all. I would like to send her something that would be easy for her to do. I have heard that you can delete your in box and when you re-boot it will restore itself but I do not know how to tell her find the in box to delete it. I am sure it can be done by using the search but what do you put into the search field?

Thanks for your concern.

There is no instant packet you can send her to do what you want to do. Deleting her inbox WILL delete her inbox, it won't come back. The only time that works is if your inbox is only mirroring the data that's stored on a server some where, like in a corporate environment or webmail setups. If she's getting her email through a pop account it's almost guaranteed it's no longer being stored on the originating server.

You don't have many options. She could just ignore that email. Alternatively you'll need to talk her through trying to fix things and believe me. Installing thunderbird and having it import her messages is likely a lot easier to do then going any of the other routes of trying to repair it.
