I think you missed it Patrick... Primesuspect's big classy American job is Icrontic. Lincoln's big classy American job is Icrontic. Icrontic's income comes from advertisements. Many Icrontic users dislike the advertisements that show up on the site, but still want to support Icrontic. Having a way to remove adverts and support the site is something users have requested.

Not paying doesn't get you any less content.

Wow, are you really wining about having options? I've specifically requested this and it's a great option. I don't know anything about Prime and Linc's "big classy American jobs" (that happen to be Icrontic) but I do know they put their lives into this community and it's really unfair to call them out for this when it's just an option. Remember, hosting isn't free and building a site like this takes a massive amount of time.

Having this option is no different from having ads in the first place and how many sites do you know of that don't have ads?

It's probably worth noting the following:

I am the first Brit registered at this site (see the user ID of #1). Thus I am the greatest if modest Brit here.

The "yanks" for all their failings (removing letters from words and so on) don't annihilate the site with ads. The removal is actually just to help pay for the upkeep of the site and so they buy really flashy stuff like... food and electricity. Which is pretty bloody extravagant... they will want clothes next!

I am sensing a tone of irony in your post so can't quite conclude if you are serious or actually pimping the pay subscription. I am hoping the latter.

I am glad there is an easy way to help pay the bills. While I have very little cash of late, I am glad I could give some of it to my family that is Icrontic. I've seen what Brian and Matt go through. They do not live in a 3500 sq.ft home with fancy cars and pool. They live in a nice older post WWII home that needs work. They have cars that are at least 4 years old. They have used furniture and 1970's kitchen. They have 2 real bedrooms and an attic for the kids. They have one real bathroom and one that was squeezed in the basement.

Do I consider them rich? YES!!!


Rich is style, rich in friends, rich in knowledge, and the richest quality.... heart and soul. For that, I am jealous of their wealth. The least I can do is give a few dollars just to a part of their lives. Without them and their wealth we wouldn't have Icrontic.

When you get right down to it the advertisements that are on the website aren't even that bad. Lincoln has done a good job placing them around the site so that they are noticeable enough to get clicks but don't completely interfere with your browsing. Compared to other forums and tech sites Icrontic hardly goes overboard with ads. Allowing users to disable ads by donating a small fee (and it really is small for an entire year) is going above and beyond to serve the user base. It's a rather generous gesture if you ask me.
