After 4 posts in the last 5 minutes, it's probably becoming obvious. I currently have a kind-of-in-law's PC side by side with mine with an umbilical cord (aka IDE cable) plugged from their HD to my PC. What started off as a simple request to resize the OS partition has now turned into a struggle to find a large enough contiguous place on the HD to put it which lacks damaged sectors. First thing I'm gonna do is recommend they overhaul their PC, it's old anyway.
For chits and giggles...
Intel Pentium 4 (unknown core) 2.4GHz Socket 478
Really old intel desktop board (incapable of booting from USB, no SATA ports)
512MB (yep! with XP installed) PC133 SDRAM
Some passively cooled AGP graphics card or other (I'm amazed it isn't onboard)
160GB IDE Samsung HD
unknown-wattage PSU (no markings)
