I am using a 9600 XT and I plan on selling it to go with an Nvidia card just to give Nvidia a chance again. I am looking ath the 5900 whatsthe cheapest / best Nvidia card for around 150- 220 bucks that will be faster than my 9600xt

I couldn't really bring myself to suggest anything due to the poor DX9 performance of the nVidia cards. I myself would not buy anything currently in the FX series of cards from them. I've got a Radeon 9800 Pro in my primary, a 9600XT in my secondary, a 9600 in my girlfriend's PC, a 7500 in my sister's PC, and Radeon mobility graphics in my notebook (with an AMD w00t!) so you can see where my loyalty lies for video cards right now.
I just think that this is the wrong time to give nVidia another chance.
The 9600XT is almost as fast as nVidia's top card.
Do you really want to waste your money for that?
I don't say this very often, but what you're considering is just downright stupid. Foolish and stupid.
a 5700Ultra is what you'll get in that price range, tho 5900's start at $220 @ Egg. Just run the cash thru your shredder or throw it out the car window, you'll be just as happy in the end ;)

what bout a 9600 with 256mb ram? they are cheap!
Your XT is faster.
from slowest to fastest upgrades that are faster than your current card:
1. Radeon 9700 Pro
2. Radeon 9800
3. Radeon 9800 Pro
4. Radeon 9800 XT
I have a 900xgt I'll let you have if you but me a 9800xt ...I payed $1450 for thru dell.
I think that's the right model number.
