I am more than a little excited about this.

But still, man, finish the damn books!

Are they that good? REALLY? Like... should I go out to Barnes and Noble and pick up the book immediately?

Yes.

I've never read them but I've thought of picking them up on more than one occasion. I'm pretty picky with my fantasy books (as most flat-out suck), but I've heard the Song of Fire and Ice ones are pretty solid.

Has anyone read any of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series? It's very good, probably the last fantasy series I got into that I thought wasn't just a complete rip-off of someone else's work. The first book is pretty dicey as far as the writing is concerned, but he (Steven Erickson) gets a bit better as the books go on. I mean, it's not fantastic blow your socks off writing (I'm speaking writing in the technical sense) but it is fantastic blow your socks off as far as the storyline and the characters go.

With all my Sci-Fi (or is it scyfy... :mean:) readingand I've not heard of this guy. So, how good is he when compared to Raymond Feist, Robert Jordan, David Eddings, Mercedes Lackey, and Stephen R. Donaldson?

It's Syfy. You know, like the STD.

Who, Steven Erikson (btw, that's the correct spelling. I bungled it last time)?

Do yourself a favor, and don't read The Song of Fire and Ice. Then you'll end up like the rest of us, bitter and angry over the fact that it'll be at least 35.82 years before we see the end of the series- and that's if we're lucky. Wait till he's finished it up, then delve into it. (That might involve you mentioning this thread in some sort of time capsule you bury in the near future)

How many books does he have left to write before ending the series?

NO.... Wait until they're finished, cause there's a reasonably good chance GRRM will turn to stone before he finishes them, and then you'll be bitter like us.

So then we should just go out and get them and be bitter with the rest of you? Least we die before it finished.

Now. Go now. There is nothing wrong with living a bitter life.

Nobody knows.

I'm pretty darn sure that there are supposed to be 7 in the series which means 3 more to go. But like everyone else here, I expect it never to be completely.

You may end up bitter, but I don't regret it for a second.

I'll add it to my list of books to buy. Thought I'm not rushing out RIGHT now given that I have about 5 books that I've purchased in the past few months and not finished.

THREAD REZ! Woo!

Throughout the past few months GRRM has been consistently posting exciting casting info in his LiveJournal "Not a Blog (http://grrm.livejournal.com/)." I will most certainly be watching this series when if it ever comes to fruition.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about.

I'm here to talk about this (http://grrm.livejournal.com/113041.html). He's writing A Dance With Dragons again. It's at 1100 manuscript pages. A little flame of hope has risen within me. Don't let us down, Mr. Martin!

I demand that you delete your post under Thrax's quote and then this post gets deleted. Can't you see we're on to something special here?
