View Full Version : BlackBerry Tour 9630
Anybody thinking about this: just do it. Awesome device. Even coming from an 8330 which I have been absolutely in love with for the past 18 months, the 9630 is amazing. OS 4.7 is great, the device is fast, the display is crisp, I can't say enough good things about it. My only complaint is battery life, which got better after installing some updates yesterday. It's not poor, but just not as good as I had with the 8330.
Anybody else have one?
I have a Bold, which the 9630 is a smaller version of.
If I could do it all over again: I would not choose a BlackBerry. I like my phone, it suits my needs, but it falls short of the functionality, versatility and aesthetics offered by phones like the G1 and the Pre.
I'm on my employer's Verizon plan. I've been drooling over the G1 for a while, but it's obviously not CDMA capable. I went and played with the Pre and decided that while it is sexy, I feel the 9630 is a better device in terms of messaging, which is my primary use. I get 150 emails/day just to my business account, reply to about 1/3 of those, and do 99% of it from my mobile. My secondary uses are mobile web and calendar which RIM OS does well enough in 4.7. I'm also not very impressed with the App community for WebOS so far.
With that volume of email, BlackBerry is really your only choice. My primary usage is mobile web and applications, with a secondary emphasis on messaging. I appreciate the simplicity and robustness of RIM's messaging, but the browser is terrible and the app community is pretty weak... Another shitty SDK for decent OS with no low-level hardawre access. Bleh.
To be fair, the browser in 4.7 is not great, but coming from 4.5, OMG.
Yeah, it's a quantum leap in improvement there. :D
I think its a pretty powerful little device, I dig it. Might not be as specialized in certain areas or have as diverse an app community but I find the call quality to be excellent. The browser, while not the nicest i've seen on a phone, is very functional. I like the messaging options be it SMS or the little chat style BB messenger. Battery life is ok, not great and not terrible. Wouldn't mind seeing that improve though.
