2009.07.30 "Thwarted" discussion

Marushka: It's a cute photo, but it looks more like a funny facebook-ey snap than something I would consider a proper "photograph". I guess maybe because it's so candid or something.

CB: I love it. It captures the theme perfectly.

Drew: It's a nice photo on technical grounds, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme to me. It doesn't tell a story.

Snark: Since I knew the theme was "thwarted", I tried to make sense of your photos like a puzzle. I completely failed to do it. I had to go to your flickr description to make any sense of it. On technical grounds, it's entertaining and well composed.

Shwaip: awesome in every way. I love it.

Drew: It's a nice photo on technical grounds, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme to me. It doesn't tell a story.I really couldn't disagree more. I guess it would make more sense if I hadn't cropped down to the plant, but it's the only green thing in a 50 ft radius, growing out of the concrete between a building wall and a concrete driveway. Solid concrete. Everything here is trying to prevent life from growing, but those attempts are thwarted.

I can't tell if shwaip's hippies shot is for thwarted or good ideas, but I love it and am laughing either way.

Drasnor: I think the vivid green against the cold, gray concrete looks fantastic. I love the idea and the interpretation as well.

primesuspect: i like the coloring and the story. cookies are delicious and no cookies definitely sucks.

snarkasm: I sat and puzzled for so long and was like wow I dont get it, but I love all those pictures. I like that the explanation took a click because it was so much better when i finally got to know what it was! The suspense created a bigger "oh man, COOL!" reaction from me. The pictures are individually beautiful on their own, and I love that you stretched the creativity of the theme in such a big way. By the way, what is baffling?

shwaip: AWESOME find. The angles and colors in the shot are gorgeous, to boot.
