See if this would be interesting...

First to post a valid black move will be my opponent. I'll trust them not to use a computer program to help. Everyone else can watch and comment, but try not to help too much. I only check the forums a couple of times a day, so it will be slow going. plenty of time to ponder what comes next.

If I knew more about the algebraic notation in chess, I would play you.

I'm afraid my inexperience with move recording would be my loss. heh.

I'm guessing the only thing "Global Thermo-nuclear War" has to do with it is it being from "WarGames" then? As thats what confused me (I knew he meant chess).

What I don't follow is you are only specifying one set of coordinates, don't you need two sets (to, from)?

Thrax
12 Jan 2004, 1:12pm
I believe the players are expected to track the moves themselves.

The opening positions are (As you well know) pre-defined, as they're the starting points for the board's pieces.

I know that. I mean as Droedge just said H3, does he mean he is moving a piece to H3, or moving a piece from H3? Thats the point that I don't follow.

The board position after the first move. When only a square is stated like d4 in the above first move, a pawn is assumed to be the piece moved to that square.

I had read it before, but not seen that line. Makes sense now :)

I guess the grand masters who would sometimes play around 50 people at the same time would have to think in excess of 500 moves ahead. :)

White is about to be screwed. Not only is black bishop and black knight so far in white's territory, they are unassailable. Once black queen makes her charge into the rear with black Rook (surprised they haven't been used already), it's over.

If I were you, white, I would...well I dunno if I should actually say it.

Yeah, they had crosses on them at one time, but I broke them off long ago when I was younger.

Yeah, I haven't been able to get my rook out for awhile now. I wanted to, but I wasted about 4 moves when I had his queen in the wrong place on the board.
