Just installed the new Nvidia drivers for the geforce 440

and now i am noticing my computer freezes alot more and I have alot more crashes? How can I either go back tothe old driver where I had few crases or how do i fix the problem. Also anymore information I can leave ot get help just reply.

You can go back to the old driver by just going in to "Add / Remove Programs" in the control panel, finding the Detonators, and uinstalling them, restarting, then installing the old set again.

But it is better to find out what is wrong with this first. For instance, if the card overclocked at all?

Nope nothing Overclocked on my system. Is there any programs out there that would tell me whats causing the crashes? Also since I moved I cannot find the old disk with drivers. So is there a website that contains the old drivers since Nvidia only has the latest on there website.

Just Google for the drivers that you want (www.google.com). If you can't find them, just say and I will have a look for you anyway.

What exactly is happening with the crashes? Does it just drop back to the desktop? Do you get an error? Does it Bluesceen?

Games freezes. Also when I know try to reboot it gives a funky sound from the tower almost sounds like a police siren. I have to try rebooting 2 or 3 times now. My virus scanner is up to date and scans daily (which I just did to make sure there was no viruses. even did a spy bot check also and found nothing out of hte ordinary.)

How long does the memtest take I let it run 15 mins and it just kept scrolling the same set of numbers? Thanks for helping this noob

Its best to leave it running for say, 4 hours, more if possible. 15 minutes won't catch anything other than completely dead RAM.

I let memtest86 run for 8 hours and nothing came back bad. ( I am assuming this cause the test was still running when I woke up in the morning) A freind of mine was saying something about fans for the motherboard might be causing the problems of overheating and shutting everything down. How do I check this out? Thanks for your help so far. Buddha :scratch:

Memtest86 will still carry on if it detects errors, there are numbers on the right hand side of the screen, PASS and FAIL. Basically if there were any errors, the number next to FAIL will be higher than 0, and thats what you needed to look at.

The fans would only really be a problem if they aren't running. Have a look inside when the machine is on and make sure they are all running.

It could be a failing PSU as well, the new driver might have just been coincidental to the problem or might have caused the vid card to put just enough of an increase in stress on the system to cause it to become more apparent...although I doubt it would.
What brand/rating power supply do you have? Is it at least 300W?
I had a similar problem with a 250W DEER PSU when I first started building comps and didn't know any better, I had replaced the PSU because I wanted more overhead to add more things to my comp, 250W was just too limiting, and after I put the 300W Sparkle PSU into my comp the rebooting problem went away completely.
It no longer hung on bootup, no more random reboots...it was completely stable.
