Happened to me on one of my rigs too, solution was the same but does anybody know why it happens or is just another of windoze vagaries?

Cookie format vagary... VB3 uses slightly different cookies, and IE can be limited to specific page for login cookies and also VB3 might have changed enough that the page is not recognized. I had to do this same thing with Opera and every other browser type I use, in both Windows and Linux. Opera (and Mozilla based browsers and IE) did not (each) recognize the page to autologin until I did, and until I pruned cache of previous pages I could not get a login "wand" option (activated with CTRL-Enter) even for this site after upgrade, much less an autologin from cookies.
Not windows, site upgrade minor issue that is part cookies and part paging details browsers use to regnize need for autologin. In my case, Iok'd cookie for whole short-media domain, and no more issues. Site now autologins (logs in automaticly or with CTRL-Enter) to any URL within short-media that a user should be able to access. But, was browser and not O\S specific.
VB3 upgrade was worth it, though, I now can surf Short-Media forums well from any browser. And functionality throughout is differnet but imho better than with VB2. I cannot help but wonder and anticipate what the final of VB3 will give us.... EXCELLENT site now... :D :respect:
