got it by using a tweak but is there any Natural way of taking v-sync off?

why do you want to do so?

vsync makes card slow no matter what manufacture. UT sits at 60fps with vsync on with it off its at 479 avg right now

That's because your monitors refresh rate is 60Hz, and that is all your monitor can display. There is no reason to display any more than that.
GnomeWizardd

monitor is at 85 smart @$$
shwaip
15 Jan 2004, 7:53pm
or not...the app probably set the refresh rate to 60.
GnomeWizardd
15 Jan 2004, 7:56pm
vsync when enabled limits your video cards fps to whatever the app or monitor refresh rate is at. with it off it doesnt hold it back and lets the card run full tilt
shwaip
15 Jan 2004, 7:57pm
Yes, but what is the reason in doing so if the monitor cannot display any more than what the refresh rate locks it to?

if you can get the higher scores to show off why not? You gonna help or no?

You asked ;)
/me puts on his "helping" hat...
If you can't find the option in the nvidia control panel, I doubt it's really hidden, so the tweak will most likely be the only way. (otherwise someone wouldn't have needed to write it)
You can turn Vsync off by using your Radeon 9600 XT.

...It didn't really seem like he actually needed help. He couldn't find it in the control panel, so he d/led something to fix the problem. Then he asked us how to fix it.

you need newer nvidia drivers so you can set custom refresh rates. if you have older drivers you need a tweak program.

I still don't see why you want to go over 60fps. It's pointless. Woo tearing, yay.

FFS. The lad want to disable the Vsync. Whether you like it or not is not the issue.
Gnome, uninstall all the extras you got and install this:
http://download.guru3d.com/pafiledb.php?action=license&id=1&file=362
That will solve the issue i'm sure.

This is using older drivers because forceware suck. But it is even easier with forceware as you dont have to click more under d3d.

And you know the difference between 60 and 479? NOTHING. At best it may seem a tiny (and I mean mineute) bit faster. At the cost of having to put up with tearing. I mean on old machines where it sped things up, yes, that makes sense, but now it just degrades the image quality for invisible frame rate boosts.

So you won't allow him to disable it?

Souriat, I don't think that your sig closes the font size tag - everybody's font is smaller after your post!
But thanks for posting the fix for Gnome's problem! ;)

That review was weird. Did they run the benchmarks with vsync enabled only on the 5950 Ultra? Looking at the results it seems that way.

Maybe he can't, but I can. I'm not really impressed by other people's numbers. Only my own. I can't help other people's budgets :D
You see, with my POS graphics card, I'm highly impressed when I can eek out a few more 3dmarks and such. Just not at the cost of tearing or other quality setbacks.
You may notice that some games look better while others look worse with Vsync off. I heard once that HL desperately needs it on to reduce tearing, but Quake 3 was intended to run with Vsync off. I'm not sure if there's any truth to that, and less sure that anyone plays Q3 anymore :).
I play none of my games with vsync, and I have never once experienced tearing on any video card I have ever used stretching all the way back to August of 2000 and the GeForce2 GTS.
For you keen on mobo chipsets, that's the KT133 there too.

OMG the good ole kt133! I remember my I had 3 fic boards with that chipset blow on my cause of a crappy case! got em replaced chucked the case bought an enlight and was good to go! BTW vsync wont cause tearing unless the card is oced to much

Well on my i820 and my Geforce 256, I had tearing like a bad mamma jamma. Vsync was my savior. Unfortunately I don't play enough games nowadays to know if my 8500 has problems without Vsync, but I do believe I have it forced on in the drivers.
