well yeah, but my KX7 was less than a month old when I bought the A7N8X-Deluxe... :D

I assume it doesn't work anymore? Mine (the t616, not the old nokia it replaced) ended up in the hamper, but it managed to avoid the washer...

primesuspect

It doesn't work anymore and I don't have the cash to replace it.... This sucks so much... :werr:

For your replacement cell phone, get yourself a case, preferably one that attaches to your belt so it doesn't end up in the wash again or get a big honking cell phone that doesn't fit in your pocket, something like this:

Oh crap.. that's gotta hurt :(

Brian, are you GSM or CDMA?

Bummer Prime, :( That sucks big time man! (Prime walking through laundry room wondering what that ringing in his ears is.) Dry it out reaaall good with a hair dryer and take it back to phone store. This here phone quit workin on me and I can't figure out why! And it's only a mnth old! Maybe they'll replace it.

So Prime, did you use hot or cold water? How bout fabric softener? What about dryer settings.. just I've never washed my cellphone before and need some tips.

primesuspect
17 Jan 2004, 4:43pm
ha ha ha very funny :grumble:

no seriously, pics would do no justice, the cellphone is sparkling clean. :D

It was the hot cycle and I used Ajax liquid detergent, for those who must know.

I dried it off over night, and plugged it into the charger this morning. The screen lit up and then died a second later. Then it started to vibrate.

And it kept vibrating

And it won't stop.

So if you ever need to convert your cellphone into a sex toy, just throw it in the washing machine for a round.

If by sextoy you mean vibrator then any phone with a vibrator would do. Not that i would like to use my cell for that purpose. As for cleaning i prefer using a soft cloth.

Either take it apart, dry it out, and put it back together. OR take it to a dealer, tell them it's "defective", and it just "died on you".

17 Jan 2004, 5:16pm
I would take it back and see what they say. If the laugh and point at you then you can feel like a true dumbass, haha

primesuspect

That would be a significant lie. That goes against my, um... "religion".....

Nah, whatever, I screwed up, now I gotta figure out how to get a new one..

TheSmJ
17 Jan 2004, 5:20pm
Take the thing apart. It's prolly just full of water.

Geeky1
17 Jan 2004, 5:24pm
Barring trying to return it, I suggest you take it apart and try to dry it out (as suggested above). Electronics are basically immune to water... it's what happens afterwards (corrosion) that kills them. If you can clean it up, it may work.

mmonnin
17 Jan 2004, 5:29pm
Turned off electronics are immune to water.;) It was turned on tho. Maybe there was still some water.

Reminds me about how a lab at school was totally under water once. Computers were all good after they were thoroughly dried but the monitors were bad.

Soap might be the killer tho.

primesuspect
17 Jan 2004, 5:31pm
The screen is pwned... It's all melty and blotchy.

The phone was on when it went through the washer, so I'm sure the more sensitive parts are f-ed.

If there were no battery attached to it, and excepting the screen, it may have very well survived the washer, but alas...... it is not to be. :(

TheSmJ
17 Jan 2004, 5:35pm
There's a deal going on right now at Amazon whereas you could MAKE $50 after rebates if you buy a Sidekick...

OR you could give the phone to me, I'll do all the dirty work at the dealer for ya. That should get you a new phone, and it's not YOU doing it, ehh?

I'd just take it apart and see what you could see. Dry it out, if the plates in the LCD seperated enough to get water inbetween them, you could prolly find a source for a replacment.

It really wouldn't get you any more worse off than you are now.

17 Jan 2004, 6:31pm
I would gather that you passed on the phone insurance then...?
I know that my insurance covers my phone even if I do some bone headed thing to it... :grin :)

I just called the insurance people, said it didn't work any more, they said 35 bucks please I said ok, no other questions were asked, I got a new/upgraded one (cause the old one was discontinued) in 2 days fedex...

Go AT&T wireless... yea

Does anyone else get a mental image of that doofus in the TV ads wandering around Prime's laundry room going "Can you hear me now?"

Sorry to hear about, though...

As far as taking it back, that reminds me of a story I heard about a camcorder a guy returned a week after he bought it because it didn't work. He claimed it ran fine for a day or so, then suddenly went dead for no apparent reason. The guy at the service depot was checking it out and noticed that there was a video cassette still inside. Thinking it might give him a clue as to what went wrong he stuck it in a VCR and watched it.

The tape showed a kids birthday party. A pool party. There was cake, ice cream, and a priceless scene where dad goes "Oh, @%#!!". Then a splash. It bobbed once or twice, then the last scene from the camera came as it drifted slowly toward the bottom. The tape ended a second later as the water shorted it out.

it's less than a month old :werr:

Insurance refund or replacement-- snow melting shorted it out.... :D

Can you let it dry for 36 hours, see if after a battery charge it works??? Batteries have been known to discharge when submerged....

If you want a HARD-knock and water resistant phone, get a Motorola construction grade or milspec "hardened" cell phone. They have good layered water resistance, temp stability, and knock about stability. The milspec motorolas CAN be dropped in a beer pitcher, and work after a recharge.... :D

BTW, cellphones in water, if the two charge points on outside of phone are shorted by water and grounded, can discharge their batteries down to zero charge VERY fast-- when no charge, the phone circuits go inactive. If water is inside phone, you can open it if not glued together and clean off circuit boards and dry, and then recharge battery. Unplug or remove battery right away, and clean and dry and recharge battery for time given for new phone chargeup and hope....

Otherwise, sorry.

John.

They can also withstand nuclear EMP and are blast hardened up to 1000 PSI. Good investment if you ever happen to step on a dirty bomb.

I like them for weather reasons, and fact that ocean is close by, also puddles a foot or more deep in wet season, often, and soaking wet grass often present. My kid brother dropped one several times into ocean, worked afterwards after a major recharge. He's used his cell phone to call SeaTow for friends at least ten times, typically when engine will not start due to discharged battery series in boats he was on with them, so it goes boating with him and is never bagged in waterproof bag.

17 Jan 2004, 8:28pm
Oh, just thought of something-- cells can dump ALL their internal programming when battery drained, especially if backup battery is also drained by shorting. No programming, no access. But reprogramming fixes THAT. Service center can reprogram, or most sales major offices for your provider.

If you do not want to lie, tell them it is totally dead, see what they ask..... :D

Well I just went and bought a cheap one. I've been a t-mobile customer for like three years and have all my business cell phones through them, so I spend quite a bit of money with them. I didn't really like the phone I had anyway. It turns out that the manager of the store where I went is an old friend of my cousin's, so I got a discount and some goodies. I ended up spending $99. Not exactly cheap, but whatever. I hate spending unbudgeted money ... :grumble:

Some form of plain vanilla Nokia.

I am not into cell phones as gadgets, believe it or not. I don't care about features or cameras or any of that. I think I got a 6610... not sure. There's no model number on it.

I can't thank you enough prime for making a thread/mistake which is the funniest thing since the members photochop gallery. I think that a lot of people though they felt sorry for you did laugh really loud. I sure did just by reading the title and am giggling right now :D.

As for cellphones i to have an older Nokia (3310). If all you want to do is make phonecalls and send an accational sms that's all you need. No need going for something expensive.

I killed my cellfone over the new year vacation in the caribbean sea. I was walkin by the water on the beach where the wave where comin in, and sure enough, a big wave knocked me over and my fone got soaked :(. I tried to clean it out, took the whole thing apart, and cleaned all the salt off of it. Still didnt work. It was a Sony Ericsson T300. But now I got a T610. I like it alot better.

Sorry Dave, but that doesn't work. From what I understand, the transmitter circut is high voltage. So as soon an the phone gets hit with water, it straight up fries its self. After mine got wet all it did was shake. and it was a very sluggish shake. Kinda interesting.

prime...dont fret...ur cell just might work... i personally have a funny story to tell... i was talking to my ex (the one i burned the teddy bear) during the initial stages of the break up. she said sumthing along the lines of "oh ur a big selfish (words i cant post on s-m)" u get the drift. at any rate, i was a tad distraught/upset.. i also felt relieved, for two reasons. 1) i got rid of that bothersome horse of a woman for the last time (tried to break up with her multiple times in the past but she didnt see it fit) and 2) i just took a raging dump. AT ANY RATE, the cellphone dropped in the bowl, i had to fish it out immediatly. Initially, it didnt work, but after 4 days, it was perfect...
