One of the few films I have seen that I watched through a large percentage of it saying "wtf is this about, why am I even watching it" and then have it all come together at the end and leave my jaw gaping open in amazement, this film I am talking about is Fight Club. This movie was simply amazing, and it's movies like this that make me want to be creative and try to create something original and inventive. I'm sure people who have seen the movie will agree. I have met some people who watched part of the film and said it sucked and was just about a bunch of guys fighting, well first off they didn't watch the whole thing, so of course they didn't get how much deeper the film goes than that. But anyway, let me get to the point. I watched the film again tonight and started sifting through some online information about it when I found this.

I was just appalled. That they could take such an ingenious work of art like this film that has such rich and interesting themes and cheapen it by turning it into a crappy video game that not only has nothing to do with the film, but goes against the very things that was the whole point of the film and made people think. Just amazing. I am very surprised that anyone would even attempt to make such a game but I suppose Hollywood will do anything for the almighty dollar, right? I certainly will never be playing this video game and I think ****ty merchandising like this just takes away from the work that is this film.
Businesses are in the bussiness of making money. That's capitalism. If we are willing to buy stupid crap, then they are willing to make it. If there was not a market for this kind of product then they wouldn't produce it. It's not like they sat around a boardroom table trying to think of ways to ruin good movies.
If you want to blame someone for this awful product, blame the consumers who purchase it.

Yeah well I figure it's all about money and there's gonna be people to buy it, I just found it funny that they would even make a product like this about a movie like that. There's certain types of movies where you can see how the product placements "fit" and make sense, this one just seems bizarre

Fight Club is one of my all-time favorite movies, but I can't really say that Vivendi will be cashing in on this game because of the name. Fight Club came out in 1999, that's five years ago. A lot of people won't even equate the movie to the game, as most people thought of the movie as a cult hit, and therefore didn't see it.
Granted, the fighting in Fight Club was only a stepping stone to the big picture, but you have to admit that some of those fight scenes were great. If anything, the game will be a bloody, kick your opponent's teeth in, homage to those scenes from the movie. I'm not saying it will be great, but who knows it could be somewhat interesting.

Oh and I don't understand where product placement in movies comes in. The only movie I know of that was made to sell video games was The Wizard, and we all know what happened there. Now a movie (also made into a game) that had tons of product placement was Minority Report. Maybe you meant something else like product comercialization.

okay well whatever term you wanna call it "accessorizing" "merchandising" I mean like with certain movies I can see it; like the LOTR series they have toys and games and stuff, I'm not really into merchandise from movies like that but some people are. Fight Club to me seemed like a movie where it would be bizzarre to derive merchandise from. Like I was talking about Donny Darko a couple weeks ago, now, wouldnt you find it strange to find toys/games/whatever, based off of that movie? I think the same about Fight Club
