ATi Catalyst 4.1 Driver Report

For those of you who fancy reading up a bit more on the most recent Catalyst driver release from ATI, now's your chance.

They tested Catalyst 3.10 against the newly released Catalyst 4.1 using the following Radeon cards 9800 XT , 9800 Pro 128 MB, 9700 Pro, 9600 Pro, 9500 Pro, 9500, 8500 and using the following benchmarks NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, Quake III: Arena version 1.32, Unreal Tournament 2003, IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles, Splinter Cell and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.

Conclusion of the conclusion:

Because of this, we have a hard time recommending this driver to those of you with non-XT cards that are satisfied with CATALYST 3.10. Chances are good that you won’t find anything new with CATALYST 4.1 that makes it worth the upgrade. And even if you do own an XT board, we’re still not certain if the limited hardware monitoring ATI provides with CATALYST 4.1 is really worth the potential risk of compromising the stability of your system, which is always a risk when you install any new driver.

The bottom line is that ATI did such a good job with CATALYST 3.10 that this driver is one that you should probably skip. CATALYST 4.2 is merely weeks away, so keep your eyes peeled out for that one!

Oh well I have 4.1 installed already.
I installed it along with my recent XP reinstall.

The Omega version is looking MUCH better on the games i play at the same settings. I don't have the stupid gamma problem with the Omegas either.
