I didn't read anything . . . just clicked on the Matrix 1 link, so perhaps the answer is on the page somewhere, but I sure hope no one did that by hand! That has to be computer generated! If that is made by hand then someone--or some group of people--need to get a life!

no doubt it's done by a script, still very impressive though!
I'd imagine it was done using one of many apps available that can create ASCII images out of a JPG or BMP.
All one would have to do is take whatever clip they want to make ASCII, turn the frames into individual images, run each image through the said program, turn the .txt files into an image again (using printscreen and Paint, as an example) and use one of many of the available apps out there to turn each image into a frame of an MPG, or whatever video format they desired.
Least, that’s how I'd do it....

telnet thing is pretty schweet.
why'd they do it on STARWARS though? ugh that's the most horribly outdated, badly written, 'im just a classic because old people watched me' series of movies i've EVER watched.
