I have reached the stage where I need better precision and a broader color gamut for my photo editing pursuits. Currently the monitor I use is a 24" Samsung Syncmaster. It's pretty good, but I really want to upgrade.

TN panels are a no go. They just aren't up to the task for the editing precision, true-color needs, and large format printing that I do. I am looking in the $500-650 range for a new 24" monitor, 1920X1200 resolution. I want the money to go for quality and precision, not silliness (to me, at least) such as built-in speakers or a TV tuner.

I am very interested in the Dell Ultrasharp U2410. The HP LP2475LP is also attractive. Please give me your opinions and any experience you might have with these monitors or other competitive models in this price and quality (IPS panel) category. Your recommendations for online sellers would also be appreciated. Dell and HP seem to be the most reasonable sellers for their respective products. (Newegg's IPS offerings are quite limited, and their shipping options are terrible for Alaska.)

Right, perhaps a poor title, but this has confused me.

We have a Dell Vostro connected to a Sony Bravia TV via a HDMI cable, using an 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4350 Low Profile card.

On the surface of things this seems to work fine, however, when the PC is left idle for a while it seems the signal between PC and tv is lost, no amount of key presses or mouse clicks seems to bring it back to life, only hard restarting brings it back on the screen.

It's on our domain, which has a high performance power plan set to turn display off never, it doesn't have a screen saver either. I had a look in the ATI Control center, nothing jumped out at me.

The keyboard and mouse are both wireless (Logitech MX3200 Cordless Keyboard and Laser Mouse - Leading edge design, one-touch media controls).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi. I need help completely uninstalling 2 programs: Registry Mechanic and Yahoo Messenger. The only traces of these programs remaining seem to be located when I navigate to the following area: Run>msconfig>startup tab. I have already formally uninstalled these 2 programs, but, in the said tab, I see the following entries still listed:

STARTUP ITEM: YahooMessenger
COMMAND: *C:\Program Files\Yah...
LOCATION: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
STARTUP ITEM: RegMech
LOCATION: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Can anyone please assist in getting rid of these? Thanks.

We use a reading program at our school called Accelerated Reader. Most of the books in our library are color coded by reading level and the students can take quizzes over the books after they read them that are worth various points based on the length and reading level of the books. I would like to put a list of all the books in our library on our website in a searchable format that the students can use to look up specific books that they would like to read to see if we have them (and have a quiz for that book.) I found a website that does what I want but it's a $200/year subscription +$100 startup fee and that is definitely out of our budget.

Is there a way that I can implement such a search on our website that is free? I am long out of practice with web coding so I'm not sure how it can be done. Any ideas? I can export the list into a text file so I can import it into MS Access or some other database program, but not sure how, if possible, that I can make this searchable.

For the last couple weeks, I've had an issue with my Windows Explorer context menus. Right clicking on a folder has become a Russian roulette for Explorer's stability. It only seems to happen with folders (i.e. not files or libraries or drives or whatever), and it only seems to happen about 20% of the time, and it's not always the same folders. What it's doing is hanging Explorer. It will sit giving me the thinking cursor, being completely unresponsive otherwise, until I give up and click the red 'X', which ends explorer.exe.

The first time it happened was soon after a Java update, relevance unknown. Also may or may not be related to my Network controller issue, which began at the same time.

I was thinking that it might have been some application which might have installed a context menu entry, but looking at the context menu, it doesn't look like anything doesn't belong there, and notrhing there is new as of the beginning of the issue. Any Ideas?

I got a free Sabrent|SBT-UPPC USB to Parallel 6-Foot Printer Cable from a guy who said it didn't work. I plugged it into my system and it worked flawlessly. That is until I upgraded my motherboard, now the cable will not identify and shows up as an unknown device. In case the cable was bad I tried it on another system and again it's working just fine.

I have tried removing the device from device manager and reconnecting as per manufacture directions, no success.

Any Ideas?
