I am so unfamiliar with this entire list i cant tell which is the song title and the the artist.
I'm so cool I listen to bands you haven't even heard of!
I'm so cool I end sentences on prepositions!

I agree, +5 to wahay. I just recently started listening to Anathallo and I must say, I love them. I'm so happy amiestreet.com recommended them to me.
They happened to play at my college freshman year. I was too naive to appreciate it, but I enjoyed the listen.

Weezer - glad to see another vote for smile like you mean it. I love that song so much.

Death Is The Road To Awe - Clint Mansell

This song is awesome, especially the ending. A great pick.

I like 'Together we will live forever' more though. A beautiful song, listen to it all the time.

*puts both songs on cue in Winamp*

So, ten years later, perhaps I've finally finished my list (which I've lost like...17 times). I'll probably want to change the list in about five minutes, too. Please note that a lot of the songs are more recent because back in the day before I learned about nifty things like portable hard drives, I lost my music library about three times. The list would also be very, very different if we were including soundtracks, classical stuff, and musicals. Don't judge me too much! Heh.

1.) All American Rejects- Move Along
2.) Oasis- Wonderwall
3.) Death Cab for Cutie- Marching Bands of Manhattan
4.) Bon Jovi- It's my life
5.) Aqualung- Strange and Beautiful
6.) Something Corporate- Konstantine
7.) Jack's Mannequin- Bruised
8.) Sufyan Stevens- Chicago
9.) Linkin Park- Crawling
10.) Chevelle- The Clincher
11.) Muse- Sing for absolution
12.) Copeland- The Grey Man
13.) Imogen Heap- Hide and Seek
14.) Lost Prophets- Last Train Home
15.) Frou Frou- Let Go
16.) Snow Patrol- Run
17.) Flyleaf- All around me
18) Sarah Mclachlan- Possession
19.) Butterfly Boucher- Bitter Song
20.) The Yeah yeah yeahs- Maps

And what's stopping you from including songs from musicals or soundtracks. If you'll notice some of us have already posted classical music too.

You still taking lists? Good, then let me put something together. Only 20 songs makes it hard to do. Anyways, here's a shot at it, in no particular order.

1. Metallica - Orion
2. Rush - 2112 Overture/The Temples of Syrinx
3. Pearl Jam - Life Wasted
4. Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien
5. Johnny Cash - Hurt
6. Blue Öyster Cult - Tattoo Vampire
7. Diamond Head - Am I Evil
8. Godsmack - Voices
9. Iron Maiden - Remember Tomorrow
10. Led Zeppelin - Living Loving Maid
11. Santana - Toussaint L'Overture
12. Yes - Heart Of The Sunrise
13. Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine
14. Alice in Chains - Nutshell
15. Chickenfoot - Future in the Past
16. Deep Purple - Highway Star
17. Disturbed - Indestructible
18. Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath
19. Kiss - Black Diamond
20. The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

Damn that was hard, whittling it down to just 1 song per artist.

muddocktor, nice list! I think you're the only one with KISS on their list so far, which kind of surprised me.

Only rule was don't repeat an artist in your list.

When is this master list going to be posted by the way?

As soon as I get more people to posts lists. There are thousands of members on this site and I don't even have 100 lists. At this point it's going to be the Icrontic 3.

After some consideration (and the joyful discovery of an HD video on youtube while looking for links for the above post), I am incredibly happy for this thread reminding me how amazing Loreena McKennitt is. If you only watch one of the videos I linked up there, watch hers (#7). She's probably the main reason that I, as an electronic-dance loving DJ, still play Bodhran in a medieval music group and listen to Celtic/world music

Holy cow, I've heard that song before and never knew who it was. I love me some folk/celtic/world style music!

So I decided to give my 20 here afterall. I wanted to take my list in a somewhat different direction that what's been posted already. I tried to give a sampling of Southern California with my picks. I've represented Los Angeles (mostly "West Coast" Hip Hop, Rock), Orange County (Ska), and San Diego (Ska/Rock). The list is comprised of songs you're likely to find on the radio on any given station, even today.

It's hard to describe the laid back feel out here without having lived in one of the cities, particularly San Diego, but Ska and 'slower' bands (STP, Incubus) fit and describe the lifestyle here perfectly. Hopefully the sampling captures the heartbeat of the cities for you.

I've thrown in a few random favorites, too.

Don't Sweat the Technique - Eric B. & Rakim
My Life - Pharoahe Monch
Oh No - Mos Def
Hip Hop - Dead Prez
Got Yourself a Gun - NAS
Watch Me - Jay-Z
Nuthin' but a "G" Thang - Dr. Dre
Gangsta Nation - Westside Connection
It Was A Good Day - Ice Cube
Express Yourself - N.W.A.
California Love - 2Pac
Santeria - Sublime
Californiacation - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters
Sell Out - Reel Big Fish
Spiderwebs - No Doubt
Drive - Incubus
Gin and Juice - Snoop Dogg
Regulate - Warren G
Plush - Stone Temple Pilots

Edit: I realize the hip hop won't get any votes, but I'd really invite you to listen to the songs I picked. They're a far cry from most of today's stuff, and if you're into any sort of ambient vibe to your music I guarantee those will fit right in.

NiGHTS, I don't think your list is nearly as odd as you've been hyping it up to be.

I've got hip hop in my list. The new Jay-Z album is sick!

I have, Quady

Agreed, Weezer - Blueprint 3 grew on me slowly, took me a few listens to really appreciate it. Empire State of Mind with Alicia Keys is great. I'm convinced Alicia is the female Nate Dogg - she instantly makes any track she's on better and has a great voice to compliment almost everyone.
