Thumbs up Here´s a couple of Raptor Raid 0 scores

Connected on the silicon SATA chipset at a 32/32 setup with no tweaks whatsoever.

Very nice. They're on my next upgrade list, but I really need more capacity than 37.5 gig per drive.

My idea is to have them as OS, editing movies/music, games and apps drives and a 200 or 250 gb WD se as a backup/storage drive. That would set me up just fine with both speed and storage. Not to expensive either.

I'm about to purchase two raptor HDs and set them up in a RAID 0 channel. However, I also need a third hard drive with more storage space than 36 gigs. Is it possible to have a RAID 0 array plus a standalone hard drive? If so, does the standalone hard drive's speed bottleneck the RAID config in any way?

I'm doing just that on my NF7-s. I have my OS and Apps on the RAID 0 Raptors and my data and backup on 4 WD JBs on a PCI RAID card. The NF7-S is great for combining SATA drives and regular PATA drives.

As long as you have more than 2 sata ports, you should be ok. Where you setup the raid array, you can choose which drives that is going to be in that array. On sata, i don't think it should hit performance at all, but on regular ATA, i'm almost positive it will.

The separate drive will have no influence what so ever on a array. If you want to keep all your drives separate and don't have an open IDE port then just spen $22 for a PCI card for your extra drive and all will be well in Gregland.

Hey everybody!
I finally sobered up enough to type Can't wait till nYe.

K, here goes: I guess I'm out of storage upgrade choices, as far as ide media goes.
My board supports sata, though, and with the 2 sata connectors from my psu, I
guess I have other options.

What benefits does having an sata drive (or 2) have? I guess they're faster and all,
but aren't they kinda small in size? I mean, for the price they're selling for, isn't it
financially feasible to upgrade something else?

I haven't been following computers and stuff for almost 2 yrs now, so I haven't read/
heard other people's convictions on the matter. I'm in no position to argue with any
of you techn0-wizards, and that's why I'm not. I just wanna know why u guys are
doing it?

Remember, I'm a ginipig, and I'm easily swayed either way. Be objective please

SATA has come down a ton in price, tho still somewhat more xpensive than IDE. Currently on NewEgg, Maxtor 80G IDE = $69, SATA = $88, both OEM 7200RPM. The speed gain is pretty small but the cabling is nice (smaller), no choosing Master/Slave/CS, future compatability, and all the same sizes are available on SATA as are on IDE.

Anyone know where I can find the cheapest raptor drives? Pricegrabber.com lists the prices hovering around $111 to $150. Anyone know a better place to get em?

Newegg's got them for $117 shipped...I doubt you'll find them for much cheaper than 110 anyways.
