* Al_Capown really can't tell the difference between sound cards...

I'd say the speakers that you have make the biggest difference ;[

Anyways, I originally had an sb live! 5.1 with some ****ty compaq speakers... Then i upgraded to an audigy 2, but i wasn't too sure if i noticed much of a difference. Then i got klipsch 4.1's and i noticed a huge difference in sound quality (in my opinion due to the speaker upgrade not the sound card). Then i built a new computer... i couldn't install the audigy 2 drivers so i just went with the quality mcp-t onboard sound. Traded the audigy 2 for an abit is7 (to baron) and here we are today, rather satisfied with my sound quality.

The signal to noise ratios on the Audigy 1 and 2 are much better than on the Live cards. It is that factor which really makes the sound quality much improved. The Audigy 1 and 2 are both worthy upgrades for the Live cards.

But yeah, if you've got a real crappy pair of speakers, you won't tell the difference at all. However, like I said, if you've got something half descent putting out the sound, then the difference between the two cards should be immediately noticeable.

Cheers

spinner has a point...sound is all relative to where ur bottleneck is...if u have crap speakers and a good soundcard..itll still sound like crap....and vice versa... its like trying to play a fps with a radeon 9800 pro with a 450mhz cpu...it just wont cut the mustard
