Check out the site and maybe a song too

The official Middlefinger website has been created and I would like to know what you guys think of it. This is my first ever site built from scratch nothing.

The XRay theme comes from me working in Radiology and the three hands signify the three members in the band. I still have lot's of media, pics and such to add and will be at least adding something new every day so be sure to bookmark it and check back on a regular basis for new stuff.

Hope you all like it.

Official Middlefinger Website

Oh yeah, it's hosted by the the Great Sarcnet Industries in which I am very happy with, thanks Brian!

u can try to center the content

for example i run 1600x1200 resolution, and if i maximize my browser windows, the content stays in the upper left corner of my browser

and btw, nice design.

I can't center unfortunately, the tables get messed up in viewing between IE & FF. Basically it is set to view perfectly with 1024X768, provided of course the person has half a dozen toolbars. I tried for a week to provide a work around but with this design just won't work.

Thanks for the input.

prof, interesting, yes that's the word.

Re: Please check out my new website

What about making a 100%/100% 1-column/width table that consumes all of the screen space, then you nest the content table inside of that and set it to align center vertical/horizontal?

I am pretty sure I went through all of that but as I said the tables aligned differently between the 2 main browsers. Although, I don't remember deliberately nesting the the tables inside each other, isn't that automatic when creating a table within another?

I think the problem I was having is being unable to anchor the main table to the exact position of the page graphic. If I centered the graphic portion and added my tables, once previewed, the tables are grossly misaligned. So then I would move my tables away from where they should be in order have them display in the proper position(offset?). That would work but they aren't being interpreted the same way from browser to browser so I gave up and moved on.

Also I created my basic design in PS & IR and did all the detailing in Dreamweaver.

Good start, Terry. The them is attractive. And, as others said, the navigation is simple and logical. I'd like the text to be a little snappier. To me, it seems like newspaper print.

Wait, after reading this again, do you mean the entire area of the screen not just around the graphic? hmmm, I'll try that right now.

Leo - I know what you mean, I'm not exactly thrilled of the look myself. I will change it when I come across something better.

Thanks guys.

Or just put it ALL inside a DIV tag and center that... I think I had some kind of similar problem back a long time ago that was solved that way.... or that was the problem. Can't remember

Re: Please check out my new website

I tried a few other things but they didn't work and I am using the DIV tag.

I managed to get the positioning thing working but unfortunately when you specify a table and it's size, you have defined the size of the view area and when I would switch resolutions, the graphic is off the page on the right and a horizontal scrollbar is present.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it just won't work captain.

Just the fact that you listened to it and acknowledged that you listened to something makes me happy Chris.

I'm was just basically saying, this silence is deafening which indicates to me that generally people around here just don't like what they hear. That is cool too, I like criticism more then I like this silent treatment. I know people like music on this site because the "what are you listening to" thread is huge. I dunno....the recordings aren't professional, songs are still largly incomplete due to no singer we like yet but I'm hoping people can at least appreciate it for what it's worth. I know I still have a lot to learn, 3 years ago I couldn't play a beat to save my life but I'm trying.

Not bad, but I don't want him that... I just think it to myself... yeah, that will nix him right off.... But musicians need support, then again, I've seen some women that need support and no one seems to tell them.... {/silent}

I dunno if I'm part of the 'younger crowd' or not, but I like the sound you guys have going. It's probably better without a singer at all than it would be with a crappy singer.

To freeform a table's width use width=99% or some such for table width, then you can grab the percentages for each column with percentage based widths.

Look at what I did with tables by viewing the source of http://johndanielsonii.com/index.html and the sub pages off that if interested in seeing a pure table and div-less page set that illustrates table structuring also, though your site views fine now in Mozilla 1.7.3 (plus a few security tweaks). Neat Site you built, Terry.

LOL Q, you make a damn good point about women!

Prof - Awww man, we're all young here, I was merely meaning younger then I am, which is under 30.

csimon - HAHA, like above, I really didn't mean it to come off like that (foot in mouth)!

GHoosdum, Gargoyle & Gnome - Thanks a lot guys, I'm glad you like.

John - I'll have a look and see If that may work for me, thanks for the input.

To all of you, you have no idea how much it means to me to have your approval. I consider you all my friends and especially wanted to share this stuff with you guys. It is all very personal to me, more so then anything I have ever done and I take it to heart, thanks.

Oh and GHoosdum - You're absolutely right, we could have had a dozen singers by now but we won't settle for less, we'll quit before that happens. At this rate though, I won't rule that out as happening.

For the record, my getright stats showed it as a new record speed for me. There was steam coming out of the cable line before it was finished.

Just had a look myself not realising you had some music/vids on it.

I have to agree with Chris. Very catchy tune. No reason why it should not appeal to the younger generations though. (unless it's because you guys don't wear baggy clothes and crouch down on the stage doing strange things with your fingers, hehehe).

Good stuff, Terry.

Absolutely. I collect old radio shows. There are times when I have had up to 500 episodes in the queue at once. I'd hate to have had to clicky-clicky, save-save 500 times. With getright it's a simple job to grab the whole lot in one shot and go to town.

I mentioned it concerning the fine music videos I downloaded from Middlefinger Band because getright also shows the speed of your download. It was about double what I expect on average for large file downloads.
