Remember Palominos?

The last big thing for Palominos was the AGOIA stepping. Well, that's what I'm using. Paroxym posted in another thread some pretty impressive gains when he switched from a Kr7A-RAID to an nForce2 board (NF7-s). He got me wondering: how much better of an OC could I get on my chip if I got a better motherboard?

I'm using an Epox 8kha+ (remeber the KT266A chipset? I know, it's SO last year...). My chip is a 1600+, and it'll run stably at 1666 MHz at default voltage, but only about to 1700 Mhz at max voltage.

I'd like to get a T-bred, but if I got a new nForce2 mobo first, do you all think I could expect much better of an OC on my 1600+ AGOIA?

edit: I'll probly get asked this so here are some more details in my setup:
SLK-800 with Tt Smart Fan 2, runs about 46c (folding, full load 24/7)
2nd mobo sensor is at 30c
2x256 MB Mushkin pc2700

maybe a new mobo will give you higher Vcore options which may help your OCing endeavers.

I would start saving for a (cheap) NF2 mobo (8RDA+ $90)and a Barton 2500+ (~$95)
Palomino FSB266 1666mhz = PR2000+
Barton FSB333 2000mhz = PR2700+ (easily attainable with your SLK800)

Every AGOIA can do 1830MHz at 1.85v. I've never seen one that can't.

I say buy a JUIHB 1700 and stick it in the 8KHA+, Garg. There's nothing wrong with that 8KHA+ for an older board and the Tbred B 1700 runs with no problems in the 8KHA+. If you hold off wondering until the end of the week, I'll be able to tell you if a Barton will work in it too. I have a 2500 coming this week from Newegg and I'm going to do some experimenting with it in various boards after I first test it out in my A7N8X and 1 of the boards I'm going to try it in is the 8KHA+.

Sounds good man! If that Barton works I might go for it.

GD mudd. Another CPU?

You are gonna be the next guy that has the cops called on him in the middle of the winter cause you have the windows open with the fans blowing out them.

I've always wanted to install a duct in the wall to bring in the cold winter air

But then I'd get too used to it and I'd really hate having to reduce my OC when the weather warms up

No, it generally doesn't get cold enough here for that to do any good. However, the window unit I put in the computer room runs 24/7/365.

Depending on how things work out the rest of this year, I might be getting3 or 4 more Bartons for the dually rigs, plus I might build 1 more box for folding and retire my laptop from the task.

There is nothing wrong with the course you're trekking here... however a 2400+ can be had @ newegg right now for 85 bucks. Also the the highly overclockable 1700+ Tbred b is on sale for like 42 dollars or something close. Just throwin this in the mix.
