Question 3D Benchmarking - WinXP or 2K faster?

I'm creating a second Windows installation for benchmarking and gaming purposes because I have so many background tasks running all the time that it slows down and interrupts my gaming/benching all the time.

Now, whether I use 2K or XP, I'm going to be running the OS pretty much on the bare minimals, just drivers + basic 2K style interface + speed tweaks, nothing else special. Will Windows2K or WindowsXP Pro give me faster gaming/benching?

Probably pretty much the same.

I got a 1021 point increase on 3dmark2001 for switching to Win2k from XP Pro. DJ-Quack as well as quite a few others experienced the same effect.

Same drivers, same install order, same components. Same everything.

I won't be going back to XP.

Seen ALOT of slowdowns in XP from video to disk. I'm not a windows guy, so I've never investigated, just observation.

But honestly, most people throw enough horsepower behind there systems that it doesn't really matter. Only thing to gain is benchmark numbers.

2000 is faster all around... Xp boots faster (big whoop).

and the MYTH that xp is better for gaming is just that..

2000 actually has a far more efficent 3d subsystem, better than xp's.

You will almost always get higher 3dmarks with 2000 vs xp (if configured properly software and hardware wise)

XP = BLOAT

Well I got around to setting up the dual-boot and 2K is doing very well. It simply feels more responsive when gaming, probably because I have half the amount of services running in Win2K compared to my already-tweaked WinXP.

I'll post benchmarks later, to show the difference between OS's.

edit: here's the benchmarks

WindowsXP Pro
3DMark03: 1760
3DMark01: 13828

Windows2K Pro
3DMark03: 1868
3DMark01: 13816

Yeah, even MS knows this, they built the XBOX off of Windows 2000 Not the technology from their work with XP.
