Post tv editing software

What is the best software for cutting out commercials from things I've recorded?

There is so many to choose from. Movie Maker (comes with Windows XP/download Movie Maker 2 cause it's better) is easy to use and will do the job. Though saving to anything other than .WMV is it's main draw back.
