Almost in the clear..... I think. (Hijackthis log)

Recently I was infested with a slew of problems. I think I handled most of them, following the instructions from this site (Adaware, spybot, virus, etc., etc.). At this point, my computer is running fairly well, however I am still getting the Mirar toolbar on internet explorer. It goes away when I run the programs, but it comes back eventually. So, somewhere embedded in my computer is a program that keeps bringing this stuff back. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

There is still a lot of bad malware in your log Squeen80. I think that Ewido would take care of the better part of it. Please downloand Ewido Anti-Malware from my signature below. Install the program and set it up according to the following directions:

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
    • Click on Start

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, exit ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:

    • If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.
    • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run ewido.
    • Close all open windows/programs/folders. Have nothing else open while ewido performs its scan!
    • Click on scanner
    • Click on Settings
      • Under "How to scan" all boxes should be selected
      • Under "Possibly unwanted software" all boxes should be selected
      • Under "What to scan" select scan every file
      • Click OK
    • Click on Complete system scan
    • Let the program scan the machine
    • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. Please check the box that says Perform Action with all Infections.
    • When Ewido is finished it will generate a report.
    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop
    • Exit ewido

Reboot into normal mode and post the Ewido log and a fresh Hijack This log.

OK. Please go here and run the Purity Scan uninstaller. After you have done this please reboot the PC and post a fresh Hijack This log and we'll begin taking care of what's left manually.

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked. Close Hijack This.

Reboot the PC into safe mode as explained in the previous post. Next we need to make sure you can view all hidden files and folders. Follow the instructions below:
    • Click "Start".
    • Click "My Computer".
    • Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
    • Select the "View" tab.
    • Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
    • Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
    • Click "Yes" to confirm.
    • Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types".
    • Click "OK".

Next use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folders listed below. Delete everything I ask you to delete. Don't worry if you can't find one of the files or folders. Just move on to the next if you can't find something.

    Please delete:

    C:\Windows\sys016929473131.exe<----This file.
    C:\Windows\ivsuzmjb.dll<----This file.
    C:\Windows\system32\w9seq.dll<----This file.
    C:\Windows\system32\dwdsregt.exe<----This file.
    C:\Windows\system32\rlvknlg.exe<----This file.
    C:\Documents and Settings\Eric\order_aKyb.exe<----This file.
C:\Documents and Settings\Eric\Local Settings\Temp<----Delete all files in this folder.

Using the Windows Search feature please search for the following file (be sure to include hidden files in your search):

    EAEBE.exe

Delete all instances of that file that you find and then empty your recycle bin.

Reboot the PC into normal mode and post a fresh Hijack This log.

In your previous thread you posted the following:

    Please delete:

    C:\Windows\sys016929473131.exe<----This file.

I deleted this file, but I also see two other files with the following names:

    C:\Windows\sys0169294731312006.exe (136k, created 3/22/06 5:42pm)
    C:\Windows\sys0731316929472006.exe (0k, created 3/22/06 6:45pm)

I noticed that the creation date of these is the same day my cpu got infected, so I assume they are bad, but will not delete them unless you give me the go-ahead.

    are these ok to leave?

Yes, please delete every instance of this file:

    C:\Windows\sys016929473131.exe

Including the ones you haven't deleted yet. How is your PC running? Can you give me a update while I take some time to go over your log.
  • edited March 2006
I am not at my PC right now, so I will delete those files when i get home. But my computer seems to be running fine. I havent had any problems in the last couple of days, although I havent been sure that maybe there are problems that some of the programs I installed have been catching (like the firewall) so I wouldnt even know that I still had a virus/spyware/etc.

Soooooooo, everything seems to be fine, and I will delete those files as soon as i can.

    Thanks for all your help!

And just one more thing. Run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [errorhandler] C:\WINDOWS\errorhandler.exe

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked.

    Delete the following file:

    C:\WINDOWS\errorhandler.exe<----This file.

Reboot the PC and post another Hijack This log and then I think we'll deem you to be clean.
    :)

Looks good. Any more problems I can help you with?
  • edited March 2006
I think I'm ok. One more thing though. I forgot to put in the last post that I noticed these files in the C:\windows directory:

    mirar.exe (i deleted it)
Yazzle something or other setup (i deleted it)
optimizer.exe (I have not done anything with this)

These programs I believe were causing some of the problems before. I dont know if they are just sitting there doing nothing, and I felt confident enough to delete the first 2, but wasnt totally sure of the last. Any thoughts?

Regardless of this, the system is running fine. Thanks for all your help!

Yes please delete the optimizer.exe file. Also please run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to this entry:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cydoor] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cd_clint.dll

    Then delete the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cd_clint.dll<----This file.

Sorry I missed this one before but it's usually not a problem without the parent program installed but you should get rid of it. Post another log after this just to make sure it's gone.
    :)
