Explorer.exe gone haywire

Need some help. This lady updated her windows update and apparently it wasnt an update it was a virus. Now verytime i load this computer, xp starts up normally and then while explorer.exe is still loading programs, explorer crashes and all thats left is the background. I rebooted in safe mode and it still does the same thing repeatedly. I scanned for virus' and found win32.exe and slx(....).exe i deleted them both, but explorer.exe still wont load, there is no abnormal processes, and i already deleted any suspicious registry entry's under /windows/current/run, i replaced wininet.exe after much trouble but it didnt help. I can still access files through task manager, but cannot run many programs, esp. ones requiring a lot of memory. I think that a part of windows has been hijacked but i have no clue what virus it is or what specific file, other than the obvious. Anybody with any idea's would be much appreciated.
