[resolved]Possible existence of Smithfraud?

I followed the guide made by Trogan and upon scanning with Sybot Search & Destroy, Smithfraud-c showed up and couldn't be removed (even after system reboot scans).

Reading further on one of the pinned thread about removing Smitfraud, I couldn't find any O2 entries in my HJT log which corresponds to the possible variants of Smitfraud.

I am hoping someone could take a look at my logs and find out whether there are any infections. Sometimes my Outlook 2003 and MSN Messenger will just freeze. Other time my IE7 seems like not working and the "Show Picture" options will keep resetting itself after sometime. Other times there is a sudden flash of a window and when I tried to look at the task manager, a process with around 9 digit of numbers appeared (e.g 123456789.exe). This file apparently is created within the temp folder and will automatically be deleted every now and then. Sometimes there is only 1 running process but at other times there may be 2 or even 3.

Attached are the Panda Activescan and BitDefender logs.

Below is the HJT log:

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

NOTE: Do not run any other options from SmitfraudFix until I tell you to do so!

    Backup your registry

    Start -> Run
Type the following to the box and hit Ok: regedit
A window opens, click on File
    Choose Export form the menu
Change the save location to C:\
    Give the filename, RegBackUp
Make sure that the filetype is set to Registryfiles (*.reg)
Click on Save and Close the window.

Open Notepad (NOT WORDPAD!) and copy the following lines from the quote box below into a new document, leaving a blank line at the end. (don't forget to copy and paste the word REGEDIT4

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
    "{8A5849C4-93F3-429D-FF34-660A2068897C}"=-

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8A5849C4-93F3-429D-FF34-660A2068897C}]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{8A5849C 4-93F3-429D-FF34-660A2068897C}]

Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
Make sure there IS one blank line at the end of the file.

Save the document to your desktop as Fix.reg and filetype: All Files
Go to your desktop and double click on the file to run Fix.reg and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Search the following file, Delete ( IF Found )

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\zkPeCrypt.dll

Please download RustBFix by ejvindh and save it to your desktop.

Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these 2 logfiles along with a new HijackThis log.

    Looks much better Already ;)

Please Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.

In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the script.
It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log ;)

Please Download One Firewall from the list Below:

After the installation of a new firewall

Click Start, Control Panel, Double Click on Windows Firewall,Click the Off option. You may receive a warning about installing or using another firewall. Click the check box for: I have a firewall solution that I monitor myself.

You Are Currently using 2 Antivirus software, that's not good at all.

Please go to Control Panel , Add/Remove programs and uninstall which one you like AVG Antivirus or Norton/Symantec Antivirus Software

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking fix checked.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8A5849C4-93F3-429D-FF34-660A2068897C} - (no file)
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Recoveru systems] C:\DOCUME~1\cfl\LOCALS~1\Temp\svchost.exe

    Go to Virustotal

Copy the following to the box next to Browse button:

    C:\Program.exe

    Click on Send
Wait for the scan to end.

Copy & Paste the scan results to here.

          Kaspersky On-line Scanner

When you are prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files
When the files finish downloading click on NEXT
          Now click on Scan Settings
In Scan Settings make sure that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
          Extended (if available otherwise Standard)

          Scan Options:

          Scan Archives
          Scan Mail Bases

          Click OK

Now under select a target to scan:
          Select My Computer
This program will start and scan your system.
Online scan can take a long time to complete and the time is impacted by the speed of your internet connection. Be patient and let it run. It is best not to do anything else while the scan is running. This will help it to complete faster.
When the scan has completed, it will display whether your system has been infected or not
Click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop or another folder where you can locate it later.
Attach this file to your next message With a fresh HJT-Log.

I have removed AVG from my system and installed Sygate Personal Firewall. However, when I double clicked on the windows firewall an error message popped out saying:

"Due to an unidentified problem. Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings"

Any idea why is this so?

One more thing, Sygate kept picking up svchost.exe is trying to communicate with the outside world. Since I saw that you have asked me to remove the svchost.exe (from the HJT), currently I am blocking it. Should I continue to do so?

Back to business, attached are the logs from Kaspersky and VirusTotal as requested. FYI, I did not fix anything with Kaspersky as you do not instruct me to do so.

          Below is the HJT log:

          Looks much Better Already :)

Sygate tries to acces the internet by telling you that , you should allow it , not block it ;)

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools

          Click Open Uninstall Manager
          Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)

Notepad will open, please paste the contents of it here as a reply.

Generate a startup list using HJT.

And please check the 2 boxes below the 'Startup' button:

          List also minor sections (full)
          List empty sections (complete)

          Empty This Folder:

          C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine

Search the following file, Delete ( If present )

          D:\Softwares\SQLPing2.CAB

You have an outdated version of Java. You should update it to the latest version.

          Start Control Panel
          Add/Remove Programs

          Delete the old Java versions
Then we'll get the latest version of Java -> LINK

Download & install Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 10
